Not trying to undermine the achievements of academics, but I just hate the methodologies employed by academia.
I prefer the the more just-get-it-done approach of the industry.
Am I in the wrong here?
Not necessarily wrong, but be careful. "The industry" currently has a problem of monopoly, which allows standards to stay low and hinders progress and creativity.
Of course I am referring to Microsoft. They have no competitors in the desktop or laptop market. Apple's target market is too niche for Apple to be considered a competitor. This is why's Microsoft can get away with Windows 10; because consumers have no other choice.
Academia typically has high standards regardless of competition. Reconsider your position please.
I have zero respect for your singles.

Wrong. Most normies have zero initiative to install their own OS. Most normies don't even know what and ISO is.
you can take advantage of both

I don't think a major change will start with normies
it will start with more competent users until it becomes a de facto standard and normies will follow one way or another
normies always follow. if you want change you don't focus on normies, you focus on leaders
