Basically add an extra portion that splits into two ports and it's kind of like an internal dongle. Yeah, it makes the case a bit fatter, but it just werks.

Case that adds 5mm to phone height at the bottom, plugs into the port

Passes the port through but also includes a sideways headphone jack (hence the 5mm addition). The jack is well inside the case horizontally so the cord/plug don't stick out to the side.
