Is it? I still the remember the anon who bought a seagull diver and instantly regretted it. 1963 also generally breaks in a year or two. I'll trust Seagull in 10 years maybe id they introduce stricter QC, also Vostok should be demoted too
>>
>>60077513
I mean, you get what your pay for with Sea-Gull, like most brands. One wouldn't buy a Seiko 5 expecting a Grand Seiko. The movement in the 1963 is also based on a pretty old design, and likely needs regular maintenance to sustain.

>>
>>60076949
Too expensive for what it is. I like the design, but at that price point they should be able to offer the tegimented case.
>>
>>60078392
I'm bummed about the non-tegimented case.

Some say hardened-steel cases rust exponentially faster.

Regardless, someone (Damasko/Sinn/Tudor) needs to make a 904 stainless or hardened 38mm GADA watch with a nice finish.
>>
>>60078421
why don't more watchmakers utilize 904 stainless btw?
>>
>>60078430
It's honestly not much (if at all) better than 316 for watchmaking.
>>
>>60078379
>>60078379
its only a few people around here that wear oversized watches. If anything, /wt/ has been moving towards more conservative watch sizes with people trying to steer away from watches that are too long lug to lug or just too big on the wrist.
>>
>>60078468
really?? why do some Rolex owners swear by it (re toughness)? is it just marketing and a meme?

how tough is it vs ice-hardened steel for example, if you know?

What's your thoughts on this fucker? On one hand if QC is all that was holding back the ST19 movement this might be one of the best value chronos. On the other hand it's hard to trust microbrands and if they break at the same rate as the Seagulls it would be straight up money down the drain
>>
>>60078533

Interesting, I had never heard about that issue. I don't really see why it would.

>GADA watch
?
But yeah I'd love Damasko to make a 38mm version of the DA36/DA38.
>>
>>60078479
Apparently it's just better for rust and nlt really much else. But Rolex owners would tend to treat their watch better than dogshit owners, which means you scratch it less.
It's the same thing with Lexus being the most reliable cars. Old people buy them and take them to the dealer for regular maintenance. Retards who buy VWs don't maintain them, so they break. It's not (just) the car being inherently more reliable.

What familial connections to the world of Horology world do you have?
My granddad is childhood friends with George Daniels. He would go to my granddad's house quite often for meals because his parents were quite abusive.

Later on when Daniels really made it big, he bought classic cars and when my granddad retired, he would go to Daniels' house every so often and spend a day repairing and maintaining his cars.

Apparently, my granddad's pocket watch was given to him by Daniels' (but it isn't one of his own pieces)

>is it total trash or actually wearable?

It's unironically impressive, you could compare the material to a RL or Lacoste Polo. The stitchings are nicely done too.

>are the 12 and 24h hands independently adjustable? I like the SEs but that's kind of a dealbreaker for me

They are not independently adjustable, the GMT hand works as a 24H hand linked to the main hour hand. For example if it's 9pm the main hour hand will show 9 on the dial and the GMT hand will show 21. If you want to check a different time zone you have to rotate the bezel to adjust the time difference.
It's an much easier and practical system compared to a real GMT movement but yeah it's technically complicated.
It's a 120€ watch after all and the finishing is amazing.
>>
>>60081257
it would also completely ruin the styling of the watch

If you can't afford the real thing, why would you buy something slightly cosmetically similar but much lower quality? There are many original and cool watches in the lower price range too. Stick to them.

Anon here, my $37 "Horween Chromexcel" strap arrived today. Ultra-pliable, soft and supple, about 2.4mm thick. Symmetry on the stitching at the end is JUST-tier but otherwise it seems nice. Vendor sells S-M-L, bought S, fits great on my babby wrist. Packaging is kind of "I'm a stay at home dad and this is my side business and most of my customers live in SF and are into workwear fashion" kinda thing, pretty much what I expected from Etsy

tl;dr: wanted a cheap strap for a Timex and it's a huge upgrade over the piece of shit cardboard strap that came with the watch

Looks breddy gud, though the really high end way to do it is to use thinner leather but continue the fold-over for the full length so you have finished leather against the skin, but for the price you can't really complain.

Pic related is a much more expensive Bulang & Sons which uses a full-length fold over.
>>
>>60084113
Looks good, anon. How much was it? I think this strap belongs on a chrono or a field watch instead of this simple Timex—it's more rugged looking than I expected
>>
>>60084153
The Bulang & Sons strap is an eye watering 90 Euro + shipping excluding VAT, but it's by far the best quality strap I've ever seen.

>>60084287

(other than the finished leather against skin etc.)
>>
>>60084348
That's precisely what makes the fold-over approach better, so you don't end up with the rough unfinished side of the leather against your wrist. It's why normal style leather straps are typically lined on the inside.
>>

Ah, okay, thanks for the info. Mind posting a pic of the watch you have that strap on?

The Sekonda I've been waiting for arrived today. It's in excellent condition, the gold plating and acrylic crystal are perfect. The winding is a bit stiff so it probably needs a service and it has a retro expanding bracelet.

I'll probably put a black leather strap on it and it'll be a great classy dress watch.

It's an act, like all entertainment is. I haven't watched him or Archie in ages because I'm not obsessed with buying high end watches.

He made a huge mistake in featuring this Frederico dude on his show and now that guy will be overtaking him in subscribers since he actually has experience working in the high end watch industry.

>>

The issue is that his act is PHENOMENALLY cringe inducing, and makes a complete mockery of anyone gullible enough to fall for it.

What exactly is he acting about though?

1. His grandfather was a real English gentleman
2. His father is a doctor so he grew up privileged
3. He's well travelled
4. He speaks Italian because it's part of his heritage and he went to study there
5. He lives in NYC, the capital of planet earth
6. He's married to a hot American chick

Interview with TGV from The Urban Gentry

>I also had many Swatch watches during the 90s. I would spend every summer
in Italy for a few months and it became a kind of tradition that my mother
would buy me a Swatch every year while waiting for the plane at duty free
in the airport.

>Lastly I have
to mention I inherited my grandfathers solid yellow gold Charles Frodsham
pocket watch which gave me greater perspective on the quality of watchmaking as a
craft. It gave me a head start and a taste for horology on different levels
and it’s history.

>For me, when I was in my late 20s and I
started to make enough money, I decide to reward myself and I bought my
first Rolex DateJust in two tone. Around the same time I also bought a
mid-sized Omega Seamaster 300, the bond blue one like Prince
William has. I figured the Omega would be a great every day watch and the
Rolex for weekends and dressing up smart. For a while I was happy with that
setup, but of course I started noticing what other people where wearing and
I soon caught the watch bug and wanted more!
