You can only post ITT if you are one of the elite Sandy Bridge master race.

You CANNOT post ITT if you fell for the memes and remorsefully """upgraded""" your Sandy to any of the subsequent housefires.

I got the 1050Ti because it's about as powerful as my old 780 and my 780 died on me. It plays GTAV on max settings at about 50 FPS so I'm not too worried. The RAM I found laying around in my basement, and the CPU runs pretty cold with okay-ish performance. The Seagate has over 47,000 POH with no problems.

You fags are insufferable.
If you do anything other than gaming, a 6+ CPU will do it better. If it's light shit, then even a fucking pentium will do. Since you faggots are probably talking about gaymes, quad cores are nearing their limits and you can see that shit even on the monsters like the 7700k having almost no headroom left while 6+ core parts have plenty. SB was amazing, but your delusion of not upgrading anytime soon needs to be checked.

this isn't a who is using the oldest thread, it's the there has been nothing better since lga1155 bread.
A clocked sandy 4t is still doing okay. If I was on Nhem I would be looking to upgrade.

What about LGA1155 Xeons bois? the ivy based v2 has better turbo clocks and you can pick up 1240v2 for about $90 on ebay and I figure tim maymay doesn't matter on a locked sku.

My PC is a lost Haswell cause (at least just coffee-warmer instead of horsefire class, also not an upgrade but initial build), but both of my Thinkpads are based on Sandy Bridge.
I have no plans on upgrading in that regard either after I realized how comfy the pre-chicklet keyboards were. If I ever have the need for raw computing power, I'll build a bare i7 Kaby Lake bonfire.

Sandy Bridge is still a good and fine CPU but it is dated and platform it drives on much more dated and this will grow and more apparent as time passes on.

Sandy Bridge wasn't really that much faster than Bloomfield either. It was much more energy efficient and overclocked like a dream.

Haswell already surpassed it in raw performance and power efficiency. Skylake utterly destroys it (that DDR4).

It is pretty much the closest thing since Core/P35 and Pentium-II 450/440BX in terms of platform longevity.
>>
>>60068828

Sandy Bridge is also a bloody firehouse when you go beyond far 4.5Ghz. It is less pronouced because of older expoxy IHS bond instead of cheapo TIMs on post-Sandy Bridge chips (Not workstation/server-tier stuff though)
>>
>>60071568
>Sandy Bridge wasn't really that much faster than Bloomfield either
Bullshit. It was a 20% or so IPC increase in one go, compared to the 20% that Intel have managed in the six years since.

>Skylake utterly destroys it
More bullshit. It's 20% faster at best in all but a select few scenarios. As for DDR4, you can easily run 2133MHz DDR3 with Sandy Bridge. Very few applications even benefit from extra memory bandwidth. In before fallout4benchmarks.png.

i7 2700K @ 4.5 reporting

I helped my housemate OC his i5 4670K to 4.5 but he can easily go to 4.9. It's snappier, has better benchmarks, and has WAY better thermal considering that he doesn't need water cooling to run 100% load.

That's wrong, SB was really closer to a ~5% IPC gain over Bloomfield in the best case. It just consumed a lot less power and overclock like a bloody dream. Bloomfield got toast as fuck as you went beyond 3.6Ghz and suck on power like a fat kid at a candy store.

An highly overclocked SB chip is bandwidth-starved when it is pushed beyond 4Ghz. That's mainly why a Skylake at the same clockspeed completely overtakes that SB by a decent margin. DDR3 just doesn't cut it.

The difference from temperature comes entirely from shitty IHS/thermal paste job on Skylake/Kaby Lake chips. De-lid that fucker and that Skylake will embarrass that old 2600K temperature-wise.

>ITT: SB-fags who are completely out of touch with current platforms and can't understand that those tiny 2-5% bumps since SB do add up.

Its getting a bit dated but I can't justify changing. Looked at everything for price/performance, from Xeon 771 hacks to Pentiums to non-k Skylake overclocks, cannot make a case for doing anything. Still looking. Anyway, that shit says 2009, sucks senpai.
>>
>>60073023

Kaby Lake has a number of platform improvements and the CPU itself is decisively faster at 4Ghz+ range then SB.

The real question is whatever or not these improvements are worth your time and money and you could simply wait a bit longer for something even better to come along.
