>friend picks up his (open) laptop from the very top
>keyboard portion just dangling down

why do you care? it's his laptop..
>>60060079
Idiot, the stress on the hinges is the same. If you grab your laptop from the lower half and lift it, the force of you lifting the lower half is transmitted to the top half through the hinges; this force is enough to lift the laptop, so it's at least as big as the gravity. On the other hand, if you grab it by the upper half, the forces acting upon the laptop (gravity and your hand) are still the same and going in the same directions. There is no structural difference between grabbing it by the bottom or grabbing it by the screen, and basically you're fucking retarded and shouldn't have dropped out of high school.

If you lift the lower part, the hinges bear the weight of the screen plus a little negligible momentum.
If you lift it by the screen, the hinges bear the weight of the lower part. On most laptops this is considerably heavier than the screen, and the hinges are not designed for that.

>torque doesn't exist
Go back to physics class Tommy. Your retardation is peeking through your pseudo-intellectual arrogance.

Rude

>>60060271
but that's completely fucking wrong and you should kill yourself

>my friend picks up his cat by the tail
>"what do you care, it's his cat"
>>60060445
>comparing cats to laptops
>Have ThinkPad
No worries. The screen part even hooks down for easy grabbing.
>>60060445
Well yeah, it's his cat. He can pick it up by the tail if he wants to

Animals are just objects.
>friend buys a new laptop
>it came with Windows 10 Home and additional adware from the manufacturer (HP)
>offer to install GNU/Linux or Windows 7 for him
>"it's ok it works fine"
>>60060539
You are just an object.
>>60060625
But both of those OSs suck. Windows 10 works great
