Today is my first attempt at a low effort and free of charge anonymous internet experience. the goal is basically to keep google and my isp from making any money off me by learning my search habits and also fuck them it's none of their business. i also prefer not to have casual users of my pc run into embarrassing shit that autocomplete throws up in the address bar while typing. general safety is good as well. please let me know what else i can do without spending any money or using experimental/unfinished browsers/search engines. here's what i have so far.

mozilla firefox with all privacy options enabled
duck duck go plus
ghostery
https everywhere
ublock origin
avast antivirus (free)
duck duck go search engine

yes i'm a normie and promise to kill myself later. thank you.

Use TOR.

Donate plasma a couple times and buy a VPN. I use NordVPN, but do your own research

i tried tor once upon a time and it was slow as molasses. is there no way to accomplish what i want while keeping the internet usable? i'm not a criminal so tor may be a bit extreme no? the vpn is an idea. i'll check it out.

Scratch duck duck go for startpage or searx. Its just better, and not run by another company who in the end wants your money just as bad as google does.

Wouldnt go for ghostery or avst either - pretty sure they're both closed sourced. Not worth it.

Extensions i would add:
1) Privacy badger
2) decentraleyes

it's a lot faster now. use a VPN and Tor for maximum comfiness

There's one more thing you need to do to keep them from tracking you. You need to run your browser in incognito mode.

Don't listen to this piece of shit. Don't listen to me either, for that matter, but if you do a little bit of research you'll find opinions from people who are more knowledgeable than me who say that using tor over a VPN is both useless and can undermine the tor network.

I live in a small retirement community, using Tor on its own would essentially deanonymise me and I'd rather not let that happen.

Use VPN.
PIA is proved to be trustworthy with their privacy policies in FBI case where asked by court they were unable to provide any information about their user, because they didn't had any.

Not sure how many VPNs are there which proved their privacy policies.

There's a reason he shouldn't listen to you.

Connecting Tor -> VPN you're extra safe

Connected VPN -> Tor you're fucking yourself over

Common sense 2017

As >>60045916 said, don't use DuckDuckGo. Gabriel Weinberg founded DDG with the millions he made selling the Names Database which profited off gathering personal information.

I use Searx and a server randomizer script (searx.neocities.org) to scatter my search queries so no one server has a complete picture. There's about 60 servers, so even if a bunch of them are compromised you'll still fare better than putting it all in one place.

Any suggestions for this? Yes, I use my parent's computer.
