It's a test to see if you were paying attention to the source material. It probably mentioned in passing that a GiB is about 300 mp3s and they put the question in the test.

I've taken a bunch of courses like this, not for "computer stuff"(or whatever the fuck this is) but for miscellaneous shit in construction like reading plans, positioning and even operating heavy machinery.

You learn nothing, it's all just filler and then they have a test on that filler.

>1 bluray = 20 YIFYs

Americans get indebted for life for this shit, yet they brag about their educational system and complain that if it were socialized like European education, its quality would drop. And yet, European education is consistently better than American education.

>inb4 muh rankings showing American colleges at the top
You mean those rankings made by American publications?

Those mean jack shit, take standardized tests comparing Finnish students to American students, that will tell you something.
>>
>>60044304
Pretty much, thats why i took the fun path and came to study to a 3rd world country.

College is stupidly cheap ($280 bucks a year) and you get to know a lot of people.
>>
>>60044304
I don't understand why though, capitalism works, there's something else at work, I just don't know what.

Why don't universities just fire their professors, put up the info online, write automated randomized testing programs, install examination booths (with cameras to monitor you) and just run that thing? You want prestige? Bump up the testing difficulty and make the students sign a paper to participate in contests, so your university's name is getting free advertising.

I think there's a government involved, I don't know american system, but I know that capitalism works and the reason your ed is fucked up is somehow because of the government.

There are kids of rich smart parents in America, and they do care about the education of their kids, and they would pay for quality, I just don't understand why they don't exploit it. Why does MIT have to pay for the lecturers when video lectures are enough? Record once and fire the old fuck, he can work as a private mentor now.

Seriously, I don't understand why it's not like that.

It should be like Khan academy, may be even open source (but with a licence that doesn't allow other organisations exploit it), but the testing and reputation would be in that private university.

Why isn't it this way? It would be this way if it was just pure capitalism, so how the more narrow question is how is the government involved? Are both Dems and Reps trying hard to make the country stupid?

Seriously, I live in Europe (Lithuania) and I would LOVE the privatization of higher ed because we have to deal with bullshit too.

I mean, they teach FUCKING PHILOSOPHY for IT students, and who the fuck would PAY FOR PHILOSOPHY? How can you get a job from philosphy? And those fucks "philosophers" (I skipped every lecture and got an 8 from their FINAL TEST, that's the kind of (((SCIENCE))) they teach you) are promoting fucking communism even though we escaped from it just 20 fucking years ago.

Capitalism works, US gov is at fault.

the lecturers cost less than the money generated by them

more money = more money

> Crony capitalism with corporations getting bailouts and lobbying for exceptions and gov deals

I would understand if you were Asian, you would totally love that face. But I assume, that you, like me, are a 20-year-old-something white male of mostly European origins, studying a CS related subject, and if you were healthy you should be attracted to white women. They're gorgeous. For Asians, I saw some exceptions, but they were all Hapas.

>>60044737
Why can't they fire them gradually, consistently showing that the actually educational performance doesn't drop? I don't go to half of the lectures and I still do well, and I have additional time to develop a game I will sell in summer (God thank you for capitalism), it will definitely flop but it will be on my resume (and that's better than better grades) and will add to experience.
>>
>>60044479
Well, the technology for high quality video lectures only recently became a thing, the university system has hundreds of years of tradition backing it, and they still get thousands of students to pay up every year for it, so there's really no incentive to reduce costs.
>>
>>60044776
Yeah, it's probably just inertia. But it should catch up, and things like Khan academy should pop up. I mean that shit is wonderful, I skipped half my math lessons (and that shit is serious, actual brain involved, nothing like fucking PHILOSOPHY) and that pajeet explained everything perfectly, it's just a pity it doesn't have automated exercise generator instead of premade ones, but that's understandable because it's on the web, and web is a mess (like Jeb, lol).

We're moving to a new age, folks, a new age where individualism (individual students, private mentors, customized 3D printing products) and capitalism will be again on the high tide. I just want to say that I LOVE what US stood for in the 1950s and I will work my ass of to get a green card and move my business to America, to take part in bringing back what it stood for in the 1950s. I see the nuclear family posters, the pinup girls, the roaring rat rods and pony cars, cheap fuel and big engines, big flags waving in the air, loud guns shooting big loads, humongous fucking army nobody dares to fuck with, beautiful women and big hamburgers. I have a giant mug with American flag and I drink coffee from it every day.
>>
>>60044881
>catch up
It's not really catching up to anything though.
People see online universities as rip-offs for the most part, and real universities that offer online courses charge just as much for them (and have a more limited selection) because otherwise the students that go to the campus for courses would stop going to the campus.

Furthermore, in-person classes have significantly better outcomes at this point in time. Students are much more engaged, they perform better, they are more likely to complete the course, etc.

Compared to every other system humanity has attempted thus far, yes, it has.
>>
