Hey /g/, I posted here about going to the army a while back and some of you guys helped me with phone selection. I got a Samsung J1 Ace and I finally managed to root it after going through many shady sites. I was wondering if I should put a custom rom on it and remove all the bloatware, so the phone lasts longer (cant charge it in camp). I heard touchwiz is shit so I just want to ask about your opinions. Also ROM thread and essential apps,

Rooting and installing a ROM (if one even exists) isn't ideal for your situation. You need to manually download and flash updates every few weeks or run insecure firmware with potential exploits. You might get better battery life but it's not worth sacrificing security, potential bugs, etc. And aosp ROMs don't exist for modern Samsungs because they don't release kernel sources on SD.

If you hate TouchWiz (it is actual shit) get a nexus device. Nexus 5, 6p are cheap. You can run a custom AOSP ROM and most of them have OTA updates. And they're a rock solid stable because everything is open source.

aye, was required to get a 4.5 inch phone as per army requirements. Was considering other brands but I was a lot more familiar with samsung.

Get a Motorola they usually have unlockable bootloader's and decent dev supporter. But like I said if I were you I'd just stick with stock firmware for stability and security.

Also might want to hit up XDA. Way more knowledge about this kind of stuff than 4chan.
