Because, why not? And because Speccy hasn't been updated in six months and doesn't know 7700k, doesn't know G.Skill DDR4 3400 ram, and doesn't know GTX 1080 VRAM.

No fucking shit, and it's embarrassing.

The 6800k is one of intel's highest OC'ing parts.

Stock is 3.4GHz with a 3.6GHz turbo and it OC's to 4.2GHz+ on all 6 cores easily.

Why anyone would run it under 4GHz is beyond me, they're either retarded, or man children who don't understand how to use the CPU they purchased.

>when I was streaming
oh boy...

You shouldnt be doing CPU encoding while streaming anyway, so CPU cores shouldnt mean shit.

Streaming should be done with a hardware encoding method either the integreated GPU using Quicksync if you have intel, or dedicated GPU through NEVNC with Nvidia, or AMD's VCE if you have an AMD GPU.

This offloads 100% of the encoding from your CPU, and has the hardware encode block of your GPU do the encoding for you, this decreases the quality (but for streaming your limitation is bandwidth anyway, so not a concern).

Tldr; there is no reason your CPU cores should be stressed at all for streaming, besides for the game you're playing, the stream itself shouldnt need CPU cores.

It is 100% true, and should not be used for movies or anime, or other media that isn't being streamed.

However, for streaming needs, you're retarded if you think it's worth the CPU hit to do software encoding.

It's still gonna look like trash because Twitch considers it abusing their network if you upload above 6,000kbps.

So you're either doing GPU encoding and not using ANY CPU time. Or you're doing super fast preset software encoding on your CPU, it still looks fairly trash, AND using up a LOT more CPU power.

The point is not achieving a certain bitrate but a certain quality at a certain bitrate.

And yes, CPU encoding does look better at the same bitrate than GPU encoding.

No respectable streamer uses GPU offloaded encoding. Some people even go so far as to buy a second PC only for streaming so all the CPU can do is encoding.
>>
>>60017076
>4k bitrate 720p60fps is mint on CPU encoding. My friend streams fine with that on his i5
What games? Minecraft?

Seriously though, if you think anyone watching a stream of that could tell the difference between CPU and GPU encoding, you're out of your mind.

If you're encoding and recording to be used later for youtube or other distribution, sure makes a bit more sense to do some CPU encoding because the quality IS going to be better, and if you're editing and doing shit to it in post, then having a higher quality file will be better. However, 90% of streamers aren't doing this. They just need to get a decent looking stream and be able to play their game at the same time.
GPU encoding is the quickest, easiest, and usually best way to do this.

The only people I really recommend use CPU encoding are the streamers pulling in $10k+ a month and have a dedicated encode/stream PC that records their gaming PC.

That's exactly how it works, just look at the box that says "multiplier"
it says (12-41) meaning it can apply anything from 12 to 41 and anything in between.
It is currently 12 * the bus speed of 99.98Mhz
So 12*99.98 is 1199.72Mhz
But at the high end we have 41 so 41*99.98Mhz is 4099.17MHz, or 4.1GHz.

To be fair though, at stock clocks you would struggle to use 140w.

Even OC'd to 4GHz I can barely get mine to hit over 160w.

I'm running with XFR disabled and using the high performance profile because with XFR enabled, my crosshair likes to average 1.4+v's in a 20 minute period just browsing the web, and only a web browser open, into my 1800x. I tried two different crosshairs and three different 1800x's and a 1700x. all where the same.

funny, i did have a gigabyte gaming 5 for a short while and it only averaged 1.32v's. i also found someone else who noticed the same thing. and of course asus won't acknowledge anything and replied back "working as intended."

i should have kept the gigabyte gaming 5. don't buy the crosshair unless you want to overclock or run with XFR disabled.
>>
>>60019799

Not super accurate, at least not on my setup.

Doesn't detect my X99 setup properly, and userbench gives me much more realistic results for my setup.

I currently have 3x8GB DDR4 3200MHz in triple channel (it's quad channel but I have a broken DIMM).

I should get between 50-70ns latency and around 40Gb/s read speeds.

Userbench gives me 52.5ns latency
and 45Gb/s read speed.

MaxxMEM^2 gives me 150ns latency and 19Gb/s
>>
>>60021022
Have you tried running as admin?
>>
>>60021041
Yup, and in compatibility mode with W7, though the website says it works fine with W10.

Seems to just not like the X99 platform.
>>
>>60021055
On my setup, I tried running maxxmem again. This time my settings and latency testing isn't detected. I found out afterwards that cpu-z (which this application relies on) does not close when closing maxxmem, for me anyways.
So I end task the cpu-z and rerunning maxxmem works again. Looks like I have to use this workaround.

I've seen other people that just cannot reach 3.8 stable on their chips at all no matter how much voltage they throw at it. Those are the ones that got actually fucked by the lottery, we were just unlucky.

Have you tried adding some voltage to the IOH?

Pity though, decent LGA 1366 boards are rare and expensive, so replacing it is kinda pointless. I'm damn happy I lucked out in getting my own 1366 board for super cheap ($30 NIB) and the fact for an Intel board is OC's pretty good. (221mhz bclock after which the QPI politely reminds me that its running at nearly 8ghz)

>>60024132
x5650s can be had for under $30 on fleabay. A board that can hit 200mhz bclock can see them to 4.2ghz or more.

That's cool. In the UK I couldn't find any 1156 i7/xeon under 60 pounds or so. Not worth at that price, but I would pay 30 dollars for HT of any kind for this motherboard.

mine is devils canyon, where they took the voltage regulator away from the die to improve temps (however, i still hit 72ishC)

Your peak wattage is barely higher than mine yet your temps spike and your fan cranks. I had mine at 4.2 stock volts and didn't see much above 65.
What HSF are you running?

Devil's Canyon still had the FIVR. It was just a refresh of Haswell with higher clocks. Skylake is when they moved it back to the motherboard.

I'm considering Ryzen real hard
>>
>>60035569
You may want to reseat that since it seems you're not making great contact. Though if there's no perceptible fan noise you could just leave it. 72C won't hurt anything and you always risk breaking something when you futz around. (I've learned long ago not to go mucking about in systems that are working just fine.)
>>
>>60036070
it's inaudable at 800RPM, but i've reseated it multiple times with different coolers and i end up with the same temp spiking bullshit. I purely think my chip sucks
>>
>>60036103
You probably have to delid if you want better temps.
>>
>>60036202
it's an airflow problem

case side off gets wayy lower temps

>>
>>60036599
I'd move 'em, since they're not doing you any good up there. If that's how the case came it was a stupid design choice. "Let's try to force air though all these obstructions!" It's just creating high pressure pocket right behind the fans so they're spinning their blades not doing much of anything.
If you have a blowhole I'd turn the Noctuna fans around, pull both fans from the front, and make two intake fans at the rear and blowhole. If you don't have a blowhole I'd take one from the front and again make an intake at the rear. Two intakes are fine -- that case has holes everywhere for it to exhaust.

This is absolutely dogshit advice, not that that hasn't been pointed out enough in this thread already. GPU encoding at 2000-4000 kbps looks like absolute butthole and that's the sweetspot bitrate if you want people to be able to watch your stream. You need a good CPU to pull 720p/60fps medium or slower x264 encoding, if not a dedicated streaming PC. GPU encoding at that bitrate is horseshit.
