I've seen so many good apps wrecked in updates I'm not even bothering anymore. It's also network, battery and time consuming.

Give me a single reason to update an already working app.

The moment some app becomes successful it usually gets bloated with adds, functionality gets moved to a premium version, or becomes accesible via in-app purchases. Devs get lazy so they also stop supporting old releases.

miXplorer is preety damn good, basically ES without the complicated UI, the ads and the crap in the lock screen

Why do people claim ES has ads? I haven't noticed that when I used it. You know blocking ads on android is easy?
You can prevent apps from connecting to internet, thus preventing ads from displaying. (Either using AFWall+ or NetGuard)
You can use adaway to block ads globally (root).
You can use NetGuard or DNS66 to block ads globally (doesn't need root).

I use it too, really nice and s/ftp works well. You can even run an http or ftp server from your phone if you want to pull files without a cable quickly.
