Doesn't it only allow it to overclock higher which my card probably will not handle?

To be honest, it's actually an RX470 reflashed with RX570 bios, just a bit more higher base clock and boost clock. Dunno how the older hardware will handle it though.

Does anyone have a compatibility list for GPUs and BIOS? I heard that some might not be compatible, although i doubt my XFX RX470 RS Black Edition OC is a problem.

There's no point.

Flashing the BIOS is more risky than just doing a moderate overclock, and the end performance is pretty much the same in every way.
