There's a reason why in this day and age, where everyone has a smartphone, calculators still exist: you NEED a wide physical keyboard to operate it properly.

calculators still exists because you can bring them to tests, while you can't bring smartphones

People who ask about expensive calculators don't understand how much your calculator means to you in fields like engineering and accounting.
I'm studying Aerospace and I can tell you my TI89 is the best school related purchase I have ever made. It factors, it solves equations and systems of equations, it derives, it integrates, it does so many things that make my life 1000X easier.

I also know accountants who fly through numbers on their calculators and often times the calculator can't keep up.
If you're an accountant, I can see you buying this calculator. I'm sure it's ubsurdely fast and they keys must feel nice and give a solid press. High quality keys and metal construction add to longevity and the huge rubber pad on the bottom assures it won't slide at all on a desk.
If it makes you work fast, it'll probably pay itself off in anywhere from a few days to a few months.

You have to compare it to a mechanical keyboard. Most people don't need one and won't enjoy the little things that make it better for people who use a keyboard at its extremes every day. The same thing goes for this calculator. It's made for someone who plugs large numbers all day long and needs everything to be PERFECT, because even something like a wobbly key cap could mean a missed number who could be huge implications.

>>59995659
Don't know a lot about eINK displays, but with the ones I have used, they seem like they have pretty slow refresh rates. I don't know if it could keep up with calculations like that.

in the USA you are not allowed to use 89's/92's for really anything educationally because of their full keyboard which classifies it at a pocket computer (92) and because it can do indefinite integration and differentiation (89).

the most expensive calculator you can take with you on the FE and PE examinations is all of 16 USD, a ti-36.

I've been using an HP 32Sii for the last 15 years or so, but again, it was not allowed on the FE or PE. I have an 89, but for about 90% of what i use a calculator for its just slow and the buttons have a lot of deadspace and chatter leading to lots of missed keystrokes unless you are pounding them down much harder than you should.
>>
>>60000502
Try calculating spacecraft's dynamics and orbital maneuvers: a proper calculator is pretty much the best thing to use, smartphone can't compete.

Funny thing is that those same calculations are valid both for playing KSP, and for preparing and passing the Orbital Mechanics exam at any aerospace engineering course.
>>
>>59995543
Jesus, just get a TI-89, it costs the same and is ten thousand times more useful.
>>
>>59999397

what the fuck is wrong with you?
>>
>>59996715
>tfw Barbra didn't invite you out for lunch
>>
>>60000624
I used my TI89 on the ACT, and every single engineering test I've take in my three years so far in college. The only classes I haven't been allowed to use it in, were calculus and econ classes. I'm in the US.

Mine has been running for 7 years with no issues. I have never encountered a dead space and the only time it's been slow is when it's solving something with imaginary solutions or advanced trig.

Also the professional engineering exam isn't even a concern of mine because from what I've heard, it's much more conceptual and not based on solving complex problems, which you shouldn't need an 89 for.

I wasted so much time in math class playing Doom and Nintendo games on this

Where I live, you can use CAS stuff and everything in pretty much all major school-related things (past elementary school) since they've been allowed in the matriculation examination since 2012 or something.

There are like some entrance examinations to some uni-level schools (like med school) where you're allowed only a really basic calculator, but nothing else as far as I know.
>>
>>60000913
it depends on your field I suppose.

the FE and PE are both around 80/20 split between calculations and concepts, with a few calculations that could be done via inspection at least for my field.

Ill be honest I have no clue what calculator I used on the ACT or SAT, the sat was still 1600 points total then. Which places taking that at or before 2005. I most likely used a cheap pocket calculator/4function.

District wide policies prevented the use of the 89 in most classes, 92 is banned nation wide on all standardized testing.

Professors at my colleges would also kick you out mid-test if you were not in compliance with the calculator policies that they set forth, which is pretty much "needs to be a simple function or FE/PE approved calculator".
