Currently worthwhile CPUs:
>G4560 for budget builds (<$500) unless G4620/i3-7100 is heavily discounted
>i3 are only worthwhile for dwarf fortress and single-purpose emulator boxes
>i5 aren't worthwhile. Get Ryzen 5, drop down to G4560, or up to Ryzen 7
>No R5 1400 unless discounted
>i7-6700k is good but pricey. If over budget: consider locked 7700; not chasing 4.8Ghz+ capable when you weren't gonna overclock, or get R5
>Cheap Z270 board is still good for faster memory in games w/ locked 7700, but aren't for overclocking (VRMs suck)
>R7/Xeon for compute/multitask/mixed use

Currently worthwhile GFX cards:
>RX470-RX580, 1070, 1080, 1080TI
>1060 is worth considering over a 580 if same/cheaper in your country, and/or you just play games it's better on for the price. 1050Ti is for mITX builds
>RX470/570 is usually all you need for 1080p@60hz.
>Nvidia GPU + Ryzen has issues in many games atm
>Budget builds: consider integrated graphics over a card weaker than RX470, unless price/performance is better (discounted/used)
>May for Vega

General:

help me lower the cost /g/
upgrading from existing (dying) server/main pc
have several sata drives, multiple usb devices that need power, and lots of compiling
no gaming/video editing/music or such other high load/high graphics, but i do enjoy 1080p x264/5
mainly I want to replace the long lasting gigabit ga-p45/intel q6600 combo i've had for 7+ years (which is starting to go)
my current case also needs replacing or i'd keep it
psu i currently have is 500watt modular, dont think that's enough to power everything anymore

i'm looking for longevity/performance over latest/greatest
>>
My core2duo shitbox just died. HDD started making the wonderful clicks of death and no longer boots.
Threw it out into my driveway from my second story window.

So.
I need a new machine on a 70$ budget.
Thinking core2quad, cheapest mobo I can find and any psu. I have a bunch of ddr2 lying around and ill build it in a box.
Any suggestions on a mobo?
Probably gonna need a cooler too.
This is gonna be over 70$ I think
>>
>>59993654
switching to the g4560 lowers the price to 378$, any other changes? i still would prefer quad core but i can live with this
how upgradeable would this combo be (in terms of years of upgrades)?

Get a cheaper mATX case and board, too.

Do it.
>>
>>59993919
Canada is like at least 30% more than those prices.
>>
>>59993753
Looks like a fairly ideal build. Though you could wait and see if the GPUs drop in price.
And 450-550W would be fine. $60 is a bit much for a M12II which often goes on sale for $40.

>I'd wait for Vega if there's a chance a low tier one is $350
I think the only chance that the cut-down Vega is $350 is if AMD also drops the MSRP of 8GB RX580s to $200.
The cut down Vega is going to be twice as powerful as that so it'd make no sense for it to only be 40% more money.

Granted, that could happen with the Pascal refresh coming.. so okay, maybe it will be $350, but I'm guessing $400-$450 right now for the cut down one.

>>59993977
>There's a 20$ rebate on the M12II right now so it's basically 40$
good choice then, but you need to mark that price in there so it's not confusing.

Been playing with my fan's speed curve to find a balance of not melting my GPU and not sounding like a fucking jet engine. On a 1060 without my fan annoying me at worst I seem to run at 75c, is this okay? To me it seems a little high but not -too- high

8 pin PCI-E power.

Lemme guess, you only have 6 pin coming out of your power supply? There should have been dual 6 -> 8 adapters in the box with the card. Otherwise you need to upgrade your power supply.
>>
>>59994466
I know but I dont understand how it hooks to my PSU. Do i put an 8 pin end into the GPU then the 6 pin end into the PSU and leave the 6+2 dangling?
>>
>>59994473
No mine has 8 but it doesnt fit the 6+2 end. Only the 6 alone fits
>>
>>59994500
6+2 is for motherboard, not GPU.

I think you can get adapters, but given that you need two sets of them, you should really consider looking at a new power supply.
>>
Should i get an AMD 470, 480, 570, or 580 if im gaming at 1080p. I know a 470 would work but will the other cards give a significant boost in frames? Which card would be best if i want to average over 60 frames. (i dont necessarily have to play on ultra graphics either, though it would be nice its not really a requirement for me and i know ultra graphics and high dont look too different these days)

Also is 4g too small? People say its fine but people also say new games are going to require more than 4g.

Hey /g/aymers,
I'm looking to join the masterrace and I have NO idea where to start; I've never built a computer before. With the recent Ryzen chips being a good value from what I heard, I decided it's time to jump on the bandwagon.
Like I said, I'm looking for a build with good value, that I can ideally upgrade in the future, as needed. I don't really have a budget, because I can just save up as much as needed, but if it could be kept under $1000, that'd be nice I guess.
I watch a lot of movies, some 4k on my OLED TV, and my shitty laptop can't handle files like that, so it'd be nice if I could. I've never really been into PC gaming, but I want to start. I've heard good things about titles like Portal, the Half-Life Trilogy, and Skyrim, and would be interested in giving them a shot.
I wouldn't mind playing these in 1080p then upscaling, because I'm not sure if the visual upgrade is worth the significant cost upgrades that would be required.

For reference, my most recent vidya gayme experience is with the Play Station 1, where I'm working my way through Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage.

I look forward to hearing your suggestions on parts, games, and even 4k vs 1080p.
Thanks in advance!

hell, i can play Porta, HL, and skyrim on a core2duo with a gt 710

Does the G4560 decode ANY 4K fine? It's my understanding that it's just the DRM that lets it decode those 4K streams. But how well does it handle decoding random 4K torrents that you download, or 4K youtube?

It's not about 3fps. It's about smoothness.
Nvidia's driver seems to stall the CPU from any thread getting much over 50% utilization which means lower GPU utilization as well.

>>59995520
It's not just on DX12.
The Witcher 3 is not DX12/Vulkan.
The main pattern I'm seeing is.. DX12, Vulkan, AND GameWorks titles. But there could be others.

Ryzen+Radeon is the smoothest you can get, but obviously an RX580 is just too weak for 144hz in newer games, or 4K.

>>59995558
If you have a free 1050Ti or left over one, go for it. You can probably set a frame rate cap to fix the pacing issues, and hopefully Nvidia will fix their driver soon.
But there is no reason anyone should be buying a new 1050Ti for any build since an RX470 is about the same cost, unless they don't have a 6pin power connector.

>>59995557
What do you mean "and"? A monitor is either or resolution.
If if you want 1440p, get one of the higher end RX580s. It looks like people are getting those RX580 GTR-S overclocked to 1520+MHz which is often above Fury X performance. That's the best budget 1440p you can get.
If you go with one of the lower end cards that won't OC as well, you may struggle or have to turn down more settings.

Now for 1080p, I'd say that's overkill and you should spend <$200.

>>59995624

Core 2s are still somewhat viable for work and older games: anything really new I just play on XBONE, this is for the cheap steam games, GIMP, web games/browsing, etc. If I swapped in a Core 2 Quad motherboard, I would meet GTA V's minimum specs

It's 30 bucks more.

Ti 4gb: $219

Rx 470 RS 4gb: $259

I'll do some youtube comparisons to see if that's true, but if so, thanks for telling me.
>>
>>59995762
Yeah, the RX470 is the way better value there. That's not even 20% more.
It could depend on what games you play, but also consider Freesync.
But even in a highly Nvidia optimized game like GR Wildlands (an outlier and not worth basing on), the RX470 is still faster. In other games it's often well over 50%.

Hardware Unboxed was supposed to do an updated GPU roundup, as well. But even on month-1 drivers the RX470 was like 43% faster on average.
>>
>>59995704

Looks to me like you built it backwards. You chose overpriced and expensive components but you cheaped out on the video card. Why?

For a monitor, I recommend the Asus VG248QE. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/rkphP6/asus-monitor-vg248qe

Here's your build, reconfigured. This is a far, far more robust build for about $40 more but it includes a cooler, which you didn't have in your build. Also, save yourself some money and leave out the optical drive. There's really no need for those in present day.

ive been trying to get a graphics card to work in my computer, but it always black screens or is seen as a faulty display adapter when using onboard graphics.
i put it in another computer and it looked like it was working for a bit, device manager saw it as a functioning microsoft display adapter, then as a gtx1080, then the screen went black. restarted a few times and it only stayed black after that. the Greenlight on the gpu near the power cables turned off, the leds turned off, fan stopped spinning. i removed the gpu, put the computer back together with its original hardware.... and now the usb devices wont work. they draw power but their output doesnt register on screen. mouse and keyboard do nothing.

what happened? what could cause this?

>Are there any features that AMD cards have over Nvidia
freesync is the huge one. Saves $75-$500 on a monitor.
Open source Linux drivers that are way, way better if you run Linux.
Better drivers and software.
6 monitors instead of 3.

I'm not really aware of Nvidia having any advantages over AMD when comparing similar hardware.
Their drivers used to be better, but now AMD's are better. They used to have their superior framerate capping software that AMD had nothing of and you had to use Rivatuner instead. But now AMD has a better one. They used to have ShadowPlay, but now AMD has ReLive which is better.
Maybe someone else can fill your or I in on something I'm missing, though.

>>59995867
550 is like.. only 4x more powerful than the iGPU on the G4560. It's pretty shit.
I mean it's fine for "esports" games.
But I'd recommend you wait and you can probably make a Raven Ridge system for <$350 that's far better.
Currently the RX550 is selling for what, $80? I'd pay like $50 max for that. You sometimes see RX460s on sale for $60-$70.

Should one expect DDR3 memory to get cheaper or more expensive over the next 3 years? Specifically SODIMM. I'm after some cream of the crop 1866 sticks with CL9/CL10 timings but that shit is still real expensive, considering DDR3 has been deprecated for a while now.
>>
My friend is currently running a cheap am3 chipset board with an FX 6120. Nvidia 970 or 980 graphics card I believe. 16 gigs of ram (1: 8gb and 2: 4gb sticks for some ungodly reason.

Only "high end" game he plays is player unknown. No coding/editing/rendering.

Currently I'm considering telling him to just throw an 8350 in there and chill considering he doesnt have any actual issues and just wants an upgrade.

He did express interest in swapping to intel, but that requires a whole new setup basically. Mobo/cpu/ram if he goes new gen.

Thoughts? The kid lives with his parents so its not like this is money he needs, but I still want to make sure he doesn't get boned too hard.

>>59996347
If a 970, I'd sell that quick while retards will still pay way more than they're worth for them.

Player unknown's is terribly optimized. But something like a 1500X or an overclocked 1600 will handle it fine and you can see videos on youtube of it running on that.
>Currently I'm considering telling him to just throw an 8350 in there and chill considering he doesnt have any actual issues and just wants an upgrade.
While that'd be cheaper, I'm pretty certain that game won't run any better on that than overclock the 6120, and that'd still run pretty bad I think.
>>
>>59996675
What's the difference, performance wise, between the 8gb GDDR of the RX 580 and the 6 gigs of the GTX 1060 in regards to performance and future prospects with the card?

I'm hoping to use it for a couple years at least.
>>
>>59996707
Nvidia cards used to shit the bed when they run out of VRAM and perform like garbage. Like a 970 would go from 70fps down to 20fps when it goes from using 3GB to 3.5GB+. Same with a 960 if it uses 4GB+.
AMD cards never had that problem.
But it looks to me like Nvidia has fixed that with Pascal, finally.

There are minor performance benefits to having more VRAM than needed, that mostly comes down to being similar to how dual channel vs single channel, and dual rank vs single rank, affects performance.

The performance of the RX580 and 1060 varies by game. In some games, especially older ones, the 1060 is better. RX580 is much better in DX12/Vulkan and a lot of newer games in general.
When they're close like that, you should general go AMD. Better drivers, better software, lots more features, Freesync, etc.
But it can depend. If like Overwatch is the ONLY thing someone plays, and they have a 144hz monitor, overclocking a 1060 is the best value there.

And I consider the 580 8GB more of a 1440p card. It's overkill for 1080p 60fps for almost every game.
If you want something futureproof, wait for Vega. Othewise you should probably just get a 570 if it's for 1080p and save the money for an upgrade in the future.

Thanks for all that, that was extremely helpful.

The problem i'm having is the 1060 6gb and the RX580 8gb are both the exact same price in Australia.

However, at the end of the year i'm moving to the US. And i intend to use a 1080p monitor for like, quite a while. Two or three years at least. And i want something that can handle VR in 1080p down the line.

Knowing that, i can't really make up my mind over the better card.

got a zotac gtx 1080 amp edition.
bios looks to pcie slot 1 by default.
with gpu in pcie slot 1 it outputs a black screen and onboard graphics outputs nothing.
same with every other pcie slot, even when i change which pcie slot it should prioritize.
when I set the bios to priorities onboard graphics it allows me to login, but the gpu still outputs blackness.
in device manager it would show up as a "microsoft display adapter" error code 43.
downloading drivers from the Zotac Disc causes my computer to Bluescreen "nvlddmkm.sys"
downloading drivers from Nvidia has the system recognize that its a gtx 1080 but still error code 43.
i put it in another system, had hdmi from the motherboard and dvi-d from the gpu going to the same monitor. its bios also looks at pcie slot 1. a low res desktop loads, then it flashes and a higher resolution appears. the device manager knows what it is and without the errorcode. but before i can download drivers the screen goes black. I restart and its stays black. I keep trying and the LEDs dont turn on, fans dont spin, and the green light near the 2x 8pin power is off. I unplug the gpu and the computer works again.

the first system has a 750 watt gold power supply, the second system has a 500 watt gold power supply.
the second system started with a Radeon R7 250 2gb. I put that Gpu into my first system and it worked the second i installed the right drivers.

something is wrong with the zotac.

Can screws holding backplates on GPUs get really loose over time without even touching them?

I spent almost a year thinking that the overheating on my GPU was just because it was old, rather than some very specific screws pertaining to some plates holding fans in place being really loose. Depends a bit, IMO.

For things that are currently out, you can certainly make do with a 470/570 4GB at 1080p and get great performance - you may have to turn down a few settings from "ultra" on a few games but IMO that's not really an issue.

Getting anything faster / more ram is just giving you extra headroom for things that may come out in the future.

Usual gaming 1080p@60/maxed(I can handle 1080p,don't mind 60fps but I need my textures to be maxed,I know postprocessing is not intensive anymore and I don't like it but stuff like poly count, Texres etc has to be cranked up) crapbuild, have modiculum of idea of what to build, problem is, as far as I see, I'll mostly play really bad ports or unfinished games(Dishonored 2,Prey, mostly games from good game designers but BAD coders).
Also, I wouldn't mind that it lasts for couple of years and if something hits me in the head and I fall for 4k144hz/vr games stuff, do have ability to upgrade.
I don't care about manufacturers (cheapest/perf/it won't break in 2 weeks)...So this is ver.0.01of build,please if I'm not seeing something, do tell.

What memory is everyone getting for the ryzen chips? Looking at 3200 and looking for lower timings.

Most is at 16 but there are a couple at 15 and 14.

Found this

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232229&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

And its only 30-40 higher then the 16. Anyone paying extra for that timing? Reviewers dont seem to show much gains but its early and its weird the way the chips gain from the memory.

Might just grab of the higher timing kits.

Also anyone recomend a case for a work enviroment where I need to look professional sometimes? Looking at the fractal cases. I have a 120mm liquid cooler lying around and might find a bracket for it so I can push this cpu so I want to make sure the case leaves me space for that option. All black no window leds or whatever lights.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jVmqyf

Where I am at now. Need memory but I have a 900 series lying around to throw in here so im fine on gpu. Also a fury x but I was thinking of using that at home for a linux gpu passthrough build.

I think you're going to want something along the lines of an R7 1700 and a GTX 1070 8GB.

Assuming things scale linearly, that should allow you to run at least 6 instances, probably more.

An alternative setup would be an R7 1800x + 3x RX470 4GB, which would probably give better performance for your specific case since each RX470 should be capable of running 4 instances if you are able to separate the workload that way (you wouldn't need them in crossfire).

Low power and its only bronze but likely will be fine if you are on a cheap build. I wouldn't push it to the limit remember power supplies can take other parts with them. But these days the builds most people actually need dont need alot of juice.

Ryzen doesn't mind CL 16 or CL18 as long as it's fast.
But the CL15/14 will generally have a better chance of actually running at 3200, if it's single rank.

There's no real exact science to it. Things are iffy now. It might only run at like 2666 or 2800 until a few BIOS updates later, whatever you get, unless you get something that was verified to run at a given speed.

yeah dude. Cards die. That's not a software issue, and there's nothing you can do about it afaik.

>RX580 or wait for VEGA release and hope it gets cheaper/ any idea on vega pricing?
Probably $400-$450 US for cut down Vega, and $550-$700 for full Vega.
Really $700 seems unlikely since AMD doesn't usually price cards that high except for workstation focused ones, but the die is so huge that idk. Nvidia has somehow set a standard that $700 mainstream GPUs are okay.

lol no the air doesn't pick up much heat going along the heatsink. If you use any down-blower style cooler, you'll be fine. You're not doing over like 1.325-1.35v on the stock cooler, anyway. Even that shitty MSI GAMING PRO with its 3 VRMs would probably be fine with a down-blower.

Sounds like it is the same thing as ten years ago - MSI sucks, Asus is super high end but very unreliable, and ASRock is mediocre in everything but does the job well.

Is Gigabyte still the best of the bunch as far as motherboards go, except for performance where it is 9/10? My old P35 board lasted me 6 years with 24/7 uptime and 33% OC, and it is still working at the old couples house I sold it to. My Z77X is also working perfect right now, only problem it has is the USB3 slots sometimes shitting themselves, but that's a known problem with all USB3 controllers.

Depends. If you're on 1080p@>75Hz or 1440p@60Hz and plan to stay there for the moment, the 580 should be more than enough. Anything higher and Vega should have the extra power you need.

If you don't plan to move from 1080p@60Hz soon, you should consider a 570 as well.

If you're just on 1080p, or 1440p 60fps is fine, then get the RX480/RX570 or RX580.

Please educate me if i'm wrong, but that's what i've read so far.

Its a stupid question.

Motherboards are built around the cpu starting with the actual socket hardware the cpu sits in cause they are not the same even within the same company.

Ryzen 5 and 7 work off the am4 or whatever they are calling it. There are 3 "chipsets", which are also built off the types of cpus you can use, for ryzen at the moment.

Building 2-3 of these for work. Will need to get some kind of gpu I think just to drive 2-3 screens on two of them. No gaming. Dont care that memory doesnt match putting them in closed black cases. Could have gone cheaper on case but I like the look and it will give me room to go AIO cooler if I feel like it later. Depends on how these overclock with the standard air cooler.

I have a gpu for mine already and might drop down on the cpu for one of the three who is doing less at the same time. Maybe the 1600.

i dont recommend over 30" for cad, when you're darting your eyes around a project the large screen space can be a pain at regular face to screen distance, especially if youre working with lots of small shit, then youre moving your head around, moving your eyes a bit too much, and looking at just a screen in front of you can be really bad for your eyes over time

i personally use two 1440p 24" monitors, since i can keep the workspace and cli on one side and tool pallets and other material on the other screen, and it for the most part has helped reduce headaches from staring at my previous big 1440p 33" tv

while i dont know what you specifically work on, i do a 50/50 mix of industrial and construction planning, and with what my drawings look like two smaller screens was much better than one huge screen

a few of my coworkers do over 30" 4k tv's and they all complain about their eyes and neck hurting after a shift

Are there any quiet slim 120mm fans?
The airflow they can generate isn't very important, as the positive pressure will help them anyway. They just need to have super quiet motors and super quiet bearings.
It would be too ugly to just have a single 140mm cut out at the top.

I don't think the build I plan to make will fit a normal sized 120mm fan, it won't happen for ~2 months though (Have to wait for itx x370 boards).
It's gonna be something like pic related.

Alternatively, is there any large CPU heatsink with a "high TDP", that is justt a tiny bit smaller than "Be Quiet! Shadow Rock 2"? "Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3" is stated to be wider than the "Be Quiet! Shadow Rock 2", so a fan on the top still wont' fit.

I wanna build a good 1080p60 gaymen machine for $850 without spending money on shit I'm not going to be needing such as extra RAM/VRAM or processor power.
I would also like to do some very light streaming and recording with this as well but having the fastest rig for that is not my concern just the ability to do it without having my machine heat up like a motherfucker would be nice.

I'd try to bump up the PSU. I'd go for 16GB RAM. If cost is an issue you can buy one single 8GB stick and then buy the second next paycheck or whenever you save up. I'd buy the second stick soon, though. RAM prices have been steadily going up.

I'm also not familiar with that SSD but there are other known brands for similar prices such as Crucial, Mushkin, and Samsung.

What are the best GPU manufacturers? How can you tell?

Anyone have a working mitx board and memory combo? Trying to dig through the memory lists for each b350 board and it looks like they havent finished testing this out very little info.

4GB is enough vram right now, for 1080p, but it might not be enough for that much longer.
GTX 1060 3gb can't handle games anymore, as it lacks the vram to do it.

16gb ram, and an 8gb card may be a better idea.
Even though for now, the difference between 8gb and 4gb may be small, in a year, the difference could be huge.
>>
fractal cases look really nice, but most of them don't have a bay for an optical drive, which kinda sucks desu senpai
>>
>>60003483
Same as >>60003637 on video card.

It's a risk to only get 4gb.
I believe even 1050ti can outperform 1060 3gb in some games, simply because of the vram.

Any new info about AMD BIOS updates for RAM compatibility?

Want to buy some 3000MHz and have it automatically run at 2933

>>60003663
Is there any particular GPU you would reccomend in the RX 580 8GB line then?

Can someone explain why liquid cooling is a meme?
>>
>>60003717

Another idea I had was downgrading to the 1500X and just get a more expensive GPU but I don't know how much getting a CPU with less cores will come to bite me in the butt later.

Power efficiency has been a main drive for years since the advent of smart phone. Also air coolers got really good. So only hard over clocks could benefit from it. And people with the 1700 from amd are saying the stock air cooler is fine for even that.
>>
>>60003804
literally just heatsinks and fans but more far away
why bother paying 300 dollars more just to have your heat transferred to somewhere further

Hey /pcbg/ I had that little fan (the white tacens one) laying around and decided to put it into my PC in preparation for summer, where is the best place to put it? It isnt too firm where it is now but I think it will be enough, I was thinking of maybe glue it on too of the HDDs tray, what do you think?

Have something similar to this but with a 480, still trying to get it fixed via RMA
>>
Alright building for office. Making two of these for varied work will each be using 2 and 3 screens. Plan on adding rx 550 video cards.

Most are louder and more expensive for a decrease in like 3 degrees

ssds are so fucking expensive compared to half a year ago or so.

At some time back then I really should have bought one.

>>60003889

If you are talking full water cooled you can increase the radiator to heat ratio and drop the fan speed accordingly.

Still mostly for the hobby though.

I think they have only gone down. You sure you are not looking at higher end hardware as opposed to last year?

Any good ITX cases that would look good with this type of furniture? It has to be able to fit in one of those quarter-circle side shelves, preferably the bottom ones. It's probably about 18"x18"x20".
>>
>>60004116
no, the crucial mx300 525gb was at 115 eurobucks once, now it's 145 euros.
>>
How can I bring price down?
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vBgwXH
Also, need a link to 20$ windows 10 for this build.
>>
>>60004138
I could also work with an HTPC-style case for the center stand, as long as it fits an ITX board.

Newegg has a whole bunch of these combo deals with the MSI B350M Gaming PRO motherboard in it but I've been hearing it's a bad choice for some reason. Why is that?

They're all good. Just check specs, warranty, overclocking features

Looking to upgrade my CPU. Right now my current one gets really hot and takes forever to render things with a decent amount of samples.

On ebay I see cheap X5 Xeons.

Would a 2.0Ghz 16 core Xeon processor be better than my 3.3Ghz 6 core i7 CPU?
>>
>>60004156

Just bootleg 7 and upgrade into legit 10. It can still be done through the accessibility method.
>>
Did anyone else buy the XFX GTR RX 480? If you look on that back of the box and read the little promotional things it looks like they left editors notes in some of them? I'm not home to take a picture but there were things in parentheses talking about how they could use different words or that this sentence may have sounded better.

The card is fucking amazing but they've obviously done some weird shit when it comes to editing the packaging.
>>
>>60004300

>>60004330
Look up benchmarks, but depending on your standards it may be worth it to upgrade your whole platform, at least to a better one that uses DDR3

Can anyone suggest ways to improve this build or make it cheaper? Its for workstation purposes (music production). I play vidya also but going to just use integrated graphics till I save up enough for a good graphics card later. I'm from UK and my budget is 300.

Is this an ok build for a gaymen pc? I'm looking to max out demanding titles like The Witcher 3, Arma III, BF1, Deus Ex, etc. in 1080p. I have a 144hz monitor so I'd like to take advantage of that in as many games as possible, but I'm aiming for a steady 60 fps on ultra.

I feel like this might be overkill but I'm not entirely sure. I might look into 1440p in the future, so I guess I don't really mind if I go overboard with it. I'm not too concerned about budget, so cost isn't really a big deal.

I'm a little iffy on the RAM. I like to play around with virtualization and things like that, but idk if 16 GB is a good choice or not. It seems awfully weird to pay the same price for my RAM and motherboard.
>>
>>60004602
Was trying to keep it under $1000. A used Xeon E5-2683 v4 16 core is about $500.

Right now my AIW water cooler is crapping out and I have to disable 2 cores when rendering to keep the temp under 82c, making the i7 even slower.

Is there any advantages with X370 from B350 other than SLI extra ports/satas and better onboard sound/lan cards? Wouldn't a B350 suffice just fine for overclocking ram to 3200mhz, a Rysen 5 1600 to 3.8-4.0ghz and an rx 580? Is going for B350 over X370 going to affect performance in any way because of the different chipset?
>>
>>60004776
Wait for Vega.
Consider a R5 1600 for games or if money isn't an issue wait for Skylake X.
16GB RAM should suffice.
Consider an rx 580 8gb over a 1080 if you got for an R5, testing has shown rx 580 being the ultimate 1440p card so far.
However for 4k gaming either wait for vega or switch 1080 with a 1080ti.
You can possibly cut the cost by downgrading PSU to 650W 80+ Bronze, getting a cheaper case 94$ is a bit much imo, buying a random cheap optical drive.

>>
>>60005074
Save up a little more and get an R5 1600 or a heavily discounted 1400 at that budget G4560 isn't really worth it. Also consider 3200 over 2400 memory, they aren't that much more expensive.

>I've been hearing it's a bad choice for some reason. Why is that?
It only has 3 phases, not even doubled, just 3, that's pure shit.
