What's a good linux distro I can install that will work with a GTX 1070. Usually I can't even begin the installation process because it won't output any video whatsoever

look around the arch wiki, theres probably a guide there for booting with newer nvidia shit. id advise you to try to stay on ubuntu, its got the most official support if your gaming. a lot of the info from arch wiki can be used on ubuntu, except for installing packages. you'll use apt instead of pacman, and you may need to build aur packages yourself or add repositories. or, go for manjaro. it has a rlly nice driver manager, if there's any oddball fuckery that you have to do with drivers than manjaro's driver manager will just do it all for you. the issue being that it isn't ubuntu, and some steam stuff will be assmad about that. this time you can just copy and paste from arch wiki though, as manjaro is based on arch. i hope you have a good time on linux anon <3

You just have to out nomodeset in your boot line to run the live OS, install it and install the drivers.
Ubuntu 16.04LTS works without a problem on newer cards, but I am not sure about the others.
