>buy [used business laptop] not for any reverence to a brand, keyboard layout, or perceived durability, but because it was $90~ shipped

>install [whatever linux distro] because its a free download and it will run whatever browser you'll be spending 99% of your uptime looking at anyway
OR
>install windows [7/8/69] because there's still a working license key stuck to the frame and it will run whatever browser you'll be spending 99% of your uptime looking at anyway

>no theme ricing, maybe even stick with an included default wallpaper or background color

>dont upgrade the ram/hdd/screen because whatever dumb program still opens with 4gb and a spinning platter. tn with bad viewing angles doesn't bother you much because its all just text and poorly produced anime/porn/hot knife youtubes anyway

I wonder if you're a developer (or just an adult). Any laptop these days will do most of my work, I use a t420 hooked up to an external screen, I also have a cheap chinese laptop with a full hd screen (screen real estate is one of the few things that makes a difference in most IDEs). When benchmarking against the $3K ultrabook my work uses as their SOE I found there wasn't much difference in performance.

Chucking my .vimrc and .bashrc in source control made things far easier for moving amongst environments.
>>
Kind of. I give a shit about technology but am too poor to be part of anything modern. I'm about 10 years behind.
>>
I'm a stickler for since things like bad font rendering but yeah I don't do the whole "create 1000 vim hotkeys to write HTML". Maybe I like things simple or I'm just lazy

I don't give a shit because I am totally burned out.

Tech just helps me accomplish goals, otherwise I ignore it.

Tech for tech's sake is no longer fun.

I'm with you OP, I just want some shit that will do what I want. Anything will do. Also can't stand all the fags arguing about C vs Python. Like nigga who gives a shit. If I own a fucking taxi service I sure as shit don't give a fuck if you're a professional race car driver. Yes I know you're fast and I also don't give a fuck. It's almost like these niggers don't have jobs and have never spent time in the real world.

give me a text editor, one round, and point me at berlin.
>>
>>59959455
Yep, same here.
I settled on a Dell XPS 13 and everything is absolutely fine the way it is.
No more ricing, no more configuring, just web browsing for fun and use it for work.

I've always been like this. I kind of just make do with whatever. I used a 2007 business laptop until like 2014 when I bought a server for $100.

I eventually built a $700 PC to play games and made a table which is an improvement from just sitting on a mattress with my monitor and keyboard on a box. I never bother with customising anything superficial.

At some point it goes beyond not giving a shit.
>pull out 9 inch laptop my dad got me for my birthday when i was 13 (he always remembers my birthday to make up for the fact that he can't be in my life anymore because the government found out what he did to my butt)
>4gb hard drive
>single core
>1gb ram
>no windows license, make lubuntu usb because ubuntu proper evidently eats too much and its fat ass won't fit on my puny hard drive
>bust my ass trying to figure out how to obtain and extract broadcom firmware without ethernet
>finally have a working system
>battery is degraded and won't hold a charge
>lol hoo giv a shit I'll just use the charger 24/7
>can barely type
>can barely see tiny screen
>mfw i consider this a victory
>>
i give a shit because it's my hobby

fucking expensive hobby but still
>>
>>59962724
Find an actual hobby. Consumerism is not a hobby.

>run mostly used high-end OEM systems because they look nice and pretty much anything made since 2006 is good enough for 90% of what I do
>maybe upgrade them to top-end configurations for fun if it's cheap
>run whatever operating system I feel like running because I feel like it
>rice it or don't, the original aesthetic is generally just as easy to appreciate
>don't give a shit about font rendering as long as it's readable and not visibly broken
>don't give a shit about display resolution as long as I have enough screen real estate to do what I want to do
>don't give a shit about the panel alphabet soup as long as I can see it
>don't give a shit about my keyboard switches as long as I can type on them
>don't give a shit about how big my numbers are or what acronyms and buzzwords are associated with my systems whatsoever as long as I enjoy using them and can compute what I want to compute and manipulate the information I want to manipulate the way I want to
