The software can be open source but does it respect your freedom? Do you have the freedom to modify and reinstall it? How about not use it at all? I would never buy a self driving car or any kind of car where a computer can control the engine or steering or anything else that could be used to crash it remotely. When self driving cars that run proprietary software become mandatory, I'm going to walk or ride a bike.

It's a Japanese car but I'm not so sure about another 10 years. I take good care of it but at a certain point a lot of stuff will need to be replaced and it'll become more expensive than to buy a new one.

Most brands, yes. All luxury brands for sure. All GM vehicles excluding the lowest of the low now are equipped with a 4g modem and whatever protocol "OnStar" uses.

Most 2017 MY cars have electronic steering/shifting.
