There are some old games that I prefer playing on CRT. Up until recently I could use a VGA to DVI-I adapter to connect CRT to my system. After upgrading GPU recently the ports available are DVI-D and it is not possible to use an adapter to convert the signal (even though products claiming to do this are being sold). So what are my options?

Anyone here good with Access?

I have a report that displays data from a query (ingredients by recipe), and the query asks for an input parameter - the recipe name - so the report only displays one recipe at a time. >>
>>59957077
that makes no sense, you can't recompress a flac without decoding it to raw pcm in between
>>

because alt codes only work for code page 437, not for unicode.
there's a registry setting that lets you enter them as unicode.

What device is your brother using? I've had my network take a shit for some reason. And was reading that it was a problem with iPhones on certain WiFi signals. What I banned the iPhones to test it, the problem went away. I can't remember how I fixed it permanently with out the van, I think I had to remove b WiFi protocol and leave g/n
>>
>>59958496
what i'm saying is that decoding to raw pcm happens anyway, there's no reason to make a .wav file as well

think of it like this, if you were to recompress a jpeg, would you create an intermediary .bmp? no, because there's no reason to, to create a jpeg, you need raw input, to get raw input, you need to decompress the original jpeg
there's no difference whether you use a bmp in between, since the same thing is happening regardless

But when I tell someone how to get from A to B by car I'm not instructing them how to shift their gears.
>>
>>59958612
i'm arguing the opposite, i'm saying there's /less/ steps than described
you can take a flac file, and output a recompressed flac file /directly/, keeping the raw data only in memory, generated as needed, codecs do this normally, that's literally what they do

Is there any point to using redundancy in RAID for non-mission critical data that isn't necessary to have available 24/7? (read: 1TB of reaction images)
Why not just skip redundancy and restore from offsite backup if necessary? Isn't that the whole point of having backups in the first place? It seems like cheap backups have made RAID obsolete.

Raid is useful for when your information is updated often and you're concerned about losing it due to harddrive failure. If having the absolute latest version of your data be safe isn't important then yes backups are cheaper and safer. Raid isn't your backup though. Even with raid you should backup because it's only protecting against drive failure or other external threats. Malicious software or simply bugs leaves you unprotected with just raid.

And backups were always cheaper than raid in general. Even back when we did backups on tapes. If you're to be asking anything it's if backups are obsolete because raid is so much cheaper now. But as I've motivated neither of these strategies offer full protection so they're both needed.

How the fuck do I fix this? It was annoying enough waiting for 27 hours for this to finish; I absolutely do not want to format this drive and lose it all again. The purpose was trying to copy my data off of my external HD onto my internal HD, because my external is currently the only copy of this data, and I want a backup.

Go download linux mint and make a live USB, go to BIOS boot screen and load from live USB. Test Linux Mint desktop, then click the big fat install icon on the desktop. Make sure you install it in a separate partition that is not where your windows is located.

I first deleted everything off of the internal HD (1/2 operations), then I did a CTRL+C copy of my external HD partition, and I "pasted" that onto the internal HD (2/2 operations). And I ensured it was NTFS.

How do you change your partition table in Windows 10? Is it in "Computer Management" or something?
>>

There aren't any. They all scream when in use. I have one from Asus. If you can find one from Sony, go for it. Sony's the one that pushed bluray.

There's no such thing as an HDMI 1.4 or 2.0 cable, the most recent change to the cable specification was in HDMI 1.3, which called the new type "High Speed".

What you need is a video card capable of giving out an HDMI 2.0 signal, and a TV/monitor capable of accepting it.

It can't.

First generations of cards that can are the Nvidia 900 series Pascal and AMD 400 series Polaris.

If you've got a DisplayPort or mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt connectors out you can get a converter dongle that'll do it, or a display that does DisplayPort natively.

Well, I just came back from going into GParted again. The drive was still "NTFS", so there was nothing for me to change.

One thing I did notice was, under the "Manage Label" column, my external HD partition was labeled "boot", while my internal HD was labeled "msftdata".

So, to experiment, I changed the flag to "boot", to match my external. Now the drive is completely inaccessible, although I see it in "Disk Management" still (but all options other than "Help" are disabled for it).

Learn C#. It's proper OOP, unlike Java (which mixes primitives and objects). THEN learn C after you get comfortable with some basic principles, so you understand what the fuck is actually going on in the CRE and why Visual Studio is yelling at you every 3 seconds.

Do you already know some programming concepts and how data types work?
Read and go through all of K&R 2nd ed, and do every exercise. It's only like a 100 page book and you'll come out an infinitely better programmer for it.

Is RS TV Show Tracker the best app for managing your TV library and tracking your progress on various shows you are watching? Screenshot of main part of interface, it has some other features like auto-downloading torrents that I don't give much of a shit about, mostly like that it can track my watched progress automatically by monitoring my media player and quickly launch the next unwatched episode directly from the program's list. The little tracker on the right for when shows resume and air is kind of nice too.

I like the program but it isn't exactly updated often and the domain for the site dedicated to it is dead, so am worried some day the sites it pulls data from will change their APIs and render it much less useful. Is there something else out there that has similar functionality but is being developed more actively?

I've researched other people having this same issue ("gparted windows fix raw partition"), and it just seems that Windows can't recognize a cloned NTFS partition for some reason. GParted says it's NTFS and just fine, but Windows can never see it for some reason.

If I can see it from Linux, I'll take it from there.

Yeah, you had way more faith in gparted than I would have. I think the ideal way to do it would have been to create the partition from disk management or a third party windows utility like easeus partition, since windows is weird about +2Tb drives, and then to use a copying/syncing utility with pause/resume to copy over the files as a separate job and verify them. I specifically don't rely on linux based utilities (gparted, clonezilla etc) for cloning when windows is part of the system, because they don't tend to catch all the little nuances that windows cares about.

Is there something like RAID 0 but without striping? Like just have a bunch of drives that work normally but data continues at the end of one drive and onto the next seamlessly, and acting like a single logical volume in Windows?

Got 3 smaller drives that it would be more convenient to use this way, hesitant to use RAID 0 though since any drive failing would basically cause every file on every drive to be corrupt, rather than something like what I mentioned where only the data at the ends of adjacent drives and the drive itself would be unrecoverable.

why the fuck isn't this PHP working
it's supposed to see if there's any lowercase in a given string, but given any inputs i've tried--all lowercase and only lowercase, a mixture of lower and upper, and all uppercase, among others--it keeps outputting that there's no lowercase

i've tried switching some things around and it always gives me either all yesses or all nos, so i'm assuming it has something to do with my regex? i'm googling it but i'm coming up dry

They're probably using deep packet inspection to block VPN style things. To solve this, you'll need to mask the packets. You could xor the packets, or use icmptunnel or something of the sort. Look into methods to bypass network restrictions on VPN. L2TP tends to work well.
>>
>>59964902
Well it's mostly just me having a bunch of small drives that it would be inconvenient to have to keep shuffling data between, would rather treat them like a single large one. Bought them years ago to use as a RAID5 when I thought having redundancy for my OS and documents and stuff would be cool, but eventually grew to hate it (maybe if I had a proper RAID controller it would have been tolerable but was too unstable and slow with the firmware RAID my motherboard provided), shifted them to RAID 0 for a while but since I got a SSD started to think this is kind of a pointless risk of my data as well (of course I have backups, but no sense tempting inconvenience)

How do I get the long press menu function onto the overview button?
Pic related, I wanna long press the square button on the right for a menu, like in Android 6.
>>
>>59964950
Mostly just use it as a place to install games anyway, so not too worried about the risk or anything, but I figure if I move from a striped to a spanned volume I should at least alleviate most of that risk (with a few files getting corrupted on the other drives but most being untouched assuming stuff isn't being fragmented between the drives too much)

Well, unless Windows decides to go full retard and tell me my array is unrecoverable even though the data is still there, but I'll cross that bridge when it comes.

Yeah, the GUI takes some getting used to. Also there's some annoying security additions, but mostly it's good and important stuff. It's probably worth it to you just to stay fully compatible with apps. Also consider going with a custom rom.

Can someone explain the Sieve of Eratosthenes to me?
From what I understand you begin with 2 and mark all it's multiples as composite, move onto the next unmarked number in the series (3) and do the same until you reach the end of the series. Any unmarked number is then a prime.

Is this right or is there something I'm missing?
Also, is it really the most effecient way to find primes or are there faster sieves?

Yeah, if you're going with an AMD processor in the hopes of not having it "backdoored", you're barking up the wrong tree. I could see the case for going with their graphics cards for the open sauce drivers, but as far as processors go there's not much difference.

Claiming Intel hates open source is the apex of retardation. Honestly they contribute more to the Linux kernel than AMD:
>Intel is in the top 2 contributors to the kernel, alongside Red Hat
>Intel GPUs and wireless cards have very good and well integrated drivers
Sure there's the backdoor below the OS level, but AMD does the same thing (not even Intel's fault, the CIA makes them include it).

What's better, KeePass or KeePassX? I'd like to stick it on a zip disquette and pass it between machines with differerent OS's.
>>
>>59964787
yea, it's called "spanned" or "JBOD"
there's various ways to make one, depends on your OS
it's worth noting that the drives won't be independant, losing one will still break access to the data on the other disks
recovering data will be easier, but nothing is gauranteed, and it's a crapshoot what data is actually on which disk
for example, if the disk with all the metadata on it dies, recovery is limited to scanning entire disks blindly to find data
and fragmentation can cause single files to be located on more than one disk, even if it's not "on the border"

basically, it's not that much safer than raid0, it's much better to just use raid0 and keep a backup

Is there a way to verify files that have been downloaded over FTP?
>>
>>59966617
"verify" in which way?
that the download is not damaged? use a checksum
that the file is made a particular person? use a digital signature

if these aren't provided, then you can't unless the file format itself has a checksum as part of it
>>
>>59966647
I download a lot of large files over ftp, and occasionally when I go to play one it just doesn't work at all, and I have to redownload it from scratch. I don't know what's causing it, and I was hoping there was some simple way of comparing files across FTP locations. It seems like something that should exist as part of the standard.
>>
>>59966683
ever wondered why bittorrent was made?
that's one thing bittorrent does, torrents are split into multiple chunks, which can be downloaded from any peer, and are checksum-validated, so any bad chunk can be downloaded again individually
>>
>>59966747
With sha-1, yes I know. Which is why in the near future it might be possible to start maliciously modifying torrents. But for my situation I'm definitely sticking to FTP. If there's nothing in the standard that accomplishes what I want, then I guess that's all there is to it.

>>
>>59966952
When in doubt, reinstall monkey and script
>>
>>59966828
not as far as i know
you can request certain parts of files with ftp, but to do something like bittorrent, you'd need a separate file which lists chunk checksums, to compare against, otherwise you have no idea where any damage is
