If you take care of your devices, they'll last forever (or until the solder paste disintegrates). In the case of my MBP, I had problems since day 0. Randomly shredded 4 HDDs, once something in the UEFI was so fucked that I couldn't even boot from a USB stick or into single user mode (the Apple Reseller charged me 120 bucks for repairs although it should've applied to EU warranty), when I played DVDs or anything graphics intense on the dedi-GPU, it would just crash (this did not happen under Windows 7 ironically), and finally in 2012 it started booting and reacting slower and slower. Now I need to wait over half an hour for the thing to boot (HDD/SSD/USB stick), over 15 minutes to log in, about 10 minutes till I can use the MBP after it's logged in...

Plenty of modern laptops are built with longevity in mind. Especially business laptops like HP Elitebooks, Dell Latitudes and Lenovo Thinkpads

And ill give the newer high end Mac books props for lasting quite some time, the 2008 models are still kicking after nearly 10 years.
But that's not anything special when compared to other high end laptops. And that longevity doesn't add up to the high price tag.

I'd get Macbook pro mostly for the display and for the build itself, not the specs. The text looks amazing. I also don't like laptops heating up, a good culprit of which are top-end cpus and GPUs for laptops. With that said, the price for the current macbook pros are ridiculous, especially in EU.
