Hey guys I got a new graphics card that uses an 8 pin connector but I only had two 4 pin connectors so I converted it to 8 pin using these adapters.
It boots and works fine I'm just wondering why people pay for big power supplys if you can just do this.
It's a housefire

Depends how power hungry the GPU is.

Because people aren't poor and have power supplies that were built within the last five years.
I don't even think people use molex anymore.

I ran into this problem myself and almost did what you posted (Molex adapters), but learned that the power level from those rails wouldn't provide ample power for a hotrod GPU.
You're going to have to buy that adapter pictured on the right or it won't work.
i broke a gpu doing this
>why people pay for big power supplies
they aren't that big, a 500W power supply can run a system with an i7 and gtx 1080 just fine with no overclocking
why your method isn't advised is because maybe your power supply cannot power your system at full load or you are running the power supply at a high load which means lower efficiency (peak efficiency is at ~50% load) or it will deteriorate faster
some power supplies cannot deliver the power advertised on the sticker btw
if a power supply has 2x8pin connectors it means that it can fully support that load (assuming it's a decent brand)

Get a new PSU NOW!!!! If you value your GPU DO NOT CHEAP OUT ON THE PSU. A friend of mine had two GPU's die on him due to a bad PSU. He only realized that too late. Do not make the same mistake anon.
