Fun fact:
Linux doesn't give a fuck about filename.
If you name your PNG image without extension it still will be detected as image and opened in default program (Dolphin at least). This is also why you can create scripts without extension, only with shebang and they will be correctly coloured in text editors (most of them at least).
Some of the programs in /bin are Perl scripts and have no extension.
>>59939719
because it doesn't work
>>59943661
No, the reason you can write scripts without extension is because of the header line specifying what to have run it.
If you don't have
#!/usr/bin/bash
or
#!/usr/bin/perl
or whatever, then it won't know what to do with it.

Plain text is a fucking awful file format.
>no standard for line endings, but at least five possibilities (LF, CR, CR+LF, NEL, LS)
>no consensus on whether to end the file with a newline or not (semantically, this is the difference between lines being separated by the newline character and lines being terminated by the newline character)
>may start with a header (BOM) indicating UTF-8 encoding, but this is ambiguous with a BOM-less document starting with the ZWNBSP character
>most editors don't render control characters or allow them to be edited, despite the Unicode standard requiring this
>most editors will not round-trip all sequences of characters, which makes plain text files easily damaged
.rtf is far superior.
