This is the problem with the mindset here. It does NOT outperform the GTX 1060. On average across a broad range of current and popular games, the 1060 is about 5% faster. (SOURCE 1) (SOURCE 2)
HOWEVER, the 480 is still the better overall card for most users, because of (but not limited to)
negligible performance difference
more VRAM in both editions
Better performance scaling above 1080p
AMD's history of better long term performance gains due to driver support (not a guarantee, but a safe bet)
FreeSync (adaptive sync is the best thing to happen to PC gaming in a long time, and AMD makes it more readily available)
I'm all about saying that AMD's product is "better" and backing it up with criteria. But let's cut the delusion. The RX 480 is not definitively faster than the GTX 1060. Now, the RX 580, on the other hand...
