Hey,

two real quick question regarding my Redmi 4A.

1. Is it worth rooting/flashing (whats the difference?) the phone?
Right now I'm using it with the stock android (MIUI) and since it's my first android device ever, I don't know if that's a relatively good or bad OS or Rom...

It's frustrating that there are so many apps that I can't uninstall, so that would probably be one of the reason why I want to start over with a "clean" phone, the same way you format and set up a new laptop.


2. How exactly DO you flash/root it and which ROM would you guys recommend?
I'm asking because there are simply too many tutorials and videos out there and often times they use different programs/roms or the steps aren't explained properly. I'mafraid of permanently damaging my phone, which is why I haven't done anything yet to "reset" it and start over with a fresh phone.


Would really appreciate some input, I'm grateful for any tips you guys can give me here.
As I said, I'm absolutely new to the whole Android (or smartphone, for that matter) thing.

Those are not quick questions, and you should have asked them in >>>/g/spg/ or even >>>/g/sqt/ since they're mostly related to the ecosystem of Android, not Redmi 4A specifically.

1) Flashing a ROM is like installing a different OS.
Rooting is like removing "training wheels" from the OS -- you can do more cool stuff, but your phone becomes less secure (this shouldn't be overlooked in case of inexperienced users like you). If all you need is a clean ROM without bloat, then flash a clean ROM and no root will be necessary.

But to do either of these things you have to unlock the bootloader (Xiaomi has their own """special""" way of doing this, good luck). This will wipe all your files and reset the OS to factory settings (but maybe Xiaomi phones doesn't get wiped? Can't remember)

2) I dunno. All phones are different in this aspect. Look through tutorials, popular ROMs, find what you like. In other words, do what you should have done before posting: lurk more.
Unless you do something stupid, it's hard to irreversibly damage a device. Just follow some tutorial closely and you shouldn't have many problems.

That means Xinput is your top priority. The GameSir controllers all have it, including the G3s. If you can fork the money, maybe get the G4s. It can pretty much work with anything.
Another controller with Xinput is the 8Bitdo NES30 Pro. It's got the standard controller layout of 2 clickable analogs, dpad, 4 action buttons, 4 bumbers, select and start. It's relatively small, but from what I hear it's dpad is a godsend. It doesn't have analog triggers though. Gamesir has analog triggers +rumble.

Pros:

Has anyone gone through return and refund procedure on AliExpress? I need some help understanding the process.

Currently I have a dispute open and the seller agreed that there is a problem and tells me to ship the item back to them, but nothing concrete happened yet (i.e. the dispute is basically in the same state as it started in).
So what's the next step? Should I blindly send it to them? Or am I supposed to wait for some proposal to be accepted or some pop-up box with something like "Send the item to this address, input the tracking number here, and wait for your refund"?

The way I feel like it should go is the seller should accept my initial return and refund proposal and only then I should begin thinking about actually sending it back. Because the timer until AliExpress staff intervenes is ticking, and it wouldn't make sense to send anything now.

Anyway I just put 2 drops of hair clipper oil and called it a day because I want to keep them open and don't want grease on my fingers.

You want the thinnest oil you can get, and clipper oil is a good choice.
