Why has this not replaced Java yet?

Oracle still supports java

It's ~4 times slower than Java
because it's the only JVM language where I actually encountered a StackOverflowException doing some really basic iteration.

A replacement is supposed to be better. Nice digits, though.

The business world moves very slowly, these things can take a decade.
Give it time.

No sane business will invest money in replacing their currently working java apps for scala shill points.
Java is with us for the long haul.

Nobody is using Scala to replace Java, they're using it to extend Java.
We use Scala at work because it integrates directly with our existing, legacy Java infrastructure.
Large projects will still be Java. Smaller projects and quick scripts are Scala.
The only thing I know about Scala is a long rant/talk from one of it's ex-committers who left the project after he realized it was kind of fucked.

Isn't Kotlin the new meme JVM language?
Why has this not replaced Haskell yet?
>Java WAS slow, back in the day. It has become much faster, due to a few generations of performance enhancements. Last I heard, it is usually within 10% of C# speed -- sometimes faster, sometimes slower. Java applet startup is still slow because you've got to start a whole JVM, which has to load all it's classes.Jan 29, 2010
