You might have to change the wallpaper of the default launcher to change the lockscreen wallpaper. Are you using MIUI?
>>
>>59891779

Hi,

yes, I'm using a Redmi 4A with MIUI 8 (should be 8, at least).

The problem here is that I don't know how to save the WP that I have right now and use that on the default launcher, since it's actually the cropped version of a bigger image.

Have you ever used KLWP and could tell me how I can save my current wallpaper as an actual image file?
>>
>>59891920
I'm not sure how it crops it. You could get a reasonable approximation of the image using photoshop. Post the original image and I'll see if I can crop it the same way it looks in your wallpaper. It might not be perfect but it should work.

I'm interested in buying a GSM phone with as many supported bands as possible to use primarily in the US and occasional use in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. I would probably be using AT&T or Cricket in the US. To my knowledge the newer US AT&T Samsung Galaxies and iPhones seem to do this the best as far as I know, but I'm looking to see if I could save money but am open to havng a phone that won't choke simply using google maps. I primarily use the phone almost exclusively for mobile hotspot, internet browsing, and navigation - I'm totally open to chinkshit or whatever.

Also if I were interested in dodging a subscription check for mobile hotspot, would a custom ROM like Lineage be a good idea as well?

>>
>>59896378
Every year samshills tell us that touchwiz is great now, but I was just watching a video about the S8 and the reviewer complained that after a few months her S7 started slowing down and stuttering, even after a factory reset.

Samsung makes excellent hardware (although I'm not sure about the fingerprint sensor placement on the S8) but they CANNOT write good software. The Samsung parts of the "android competitor" Tizen are apparently written so poorly that its full of potential exploits.

I'm fine with it on broad daylight, otherwise it's a mediocre camera. Police don't pick up on people that aren't dealers either so I'm pretty sure that I'm safe from that point of view. I'm careful anyway and I grow mine naturally cause if police catch you with lights and all that stuff you could get in serious trouble. Just go on RoyalQueenSeeds or look up on forums. I personally buy my seeds from there

>Location

>Features
Nothing out of the ordinary. Replacing an iphone 4s so would want it to have better specs/be more responsive than that.
Good battery life is nice. USB-C would be sweet.

Less is more, soft cap of $300.

Was happy with my Moto G2, but now the headphone jack glitches and the power button is loose, causing my phone to enter a reboot-loop sometimes. These stupid issues made the phone almost unusable and now I want a phone that doesn't break because of shit like that.
I mainly do messaging, web-browsing and sometimes I watch a few videos.

Budget: ~300€

Stuff I care about:
>Build quality
>Software support (either from the manufactrer or good custom rom support)
>Should be sufficient for playing back 720p videos
>Screen shouldn't be terribly small

Stuff I don't care about:
>LTE
>1080+p resolution
>Battery life
>Camera

You could, you gotta know your way around though generally, it helps a lot if you have connections and you know people, sucks from this point of view, but even though it's a poor country it does a VERY good job at masking it. You gotta give it to Italians. I'm not Italian myself but I grew up here basically and I got my citizenship and all. If you speak English and can squeeze up french in your head as well you're pretty much good to go. Add some basic computer use and you're golden. It all depends on what you want to do in the end, the choices are there and you can break through, you just have to want it

I have two of the same phones. The spare is not worth selling. I want to use it as a backup device so if I lose my current handset I can just wipe it remotely and restore a backup to the spare and carry on like nothing happened.

Is this possible?
The device isn't rootable. The bootloader cannot be unlocked, and it can't boot into recovery mode. It automatically factory resets by typing in the following
>adb reboot recovery

I've set up a desktop backup password but don't see a simple way to create a complete image file of the phone. Windows backups are easy. You do a windows backup, you throw out your hard drive, plop one of equal or greater size, restore, and you're done.

I want this for my phone and I have two identical devices.

I'm sure you could make it work, but you could also find something much better and newer. Good thing is that the battery is super easy to replace (which you'll want to do if you're using a phone from 2014). I'm not sure about the camera quality, my mom has an S5 and ends up taking pictures with her tablet because it has a better camera.

Make sure you get a model that can actually have the bootloader unlocked and a custom ROM installed, it would suck to be stuck with ancient touchwiz.

So my S5 is starting to fuck up for no reason, and I find myself without a phone. Need something that lasts me at least two years.

I'm currently considering Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime and Sony Xperia Z3, mostly, though I don't have a good grasp of the phone market. The latter would be the top of my budget. Are there other former flagships that I should look into, that fall into the price bracket 150-300 dollars? Don't want another Samsung right now, and I'd prefer if the phones aren't too old to find new/unused ones.

>Features
microSD slot, and as close to the speed of my old S5, within the budget of $300 max.

>Size
I'm pretty flexible with size, though it shouldn't be too large. Again, Z3 would be pretty much the upper limit (5.2 inches screen). If there's a perfect phone at 5.5 inches, I wouldn't reject the idea immediately.

>Country & Carrier
In case it's relevant, phones would be used in Germany, with T-Mobile. I don't greatly mind if it's missing any relevant LTE bands. Just don't want to have to buy it from some Pajeet on aliexpress, if it's avoidable.

Meanwhile, sold my S3 a couple months back, which is two years older than my S5, and that one still runs smooth as ass cheeks. Fuck me.

>SD660 is about as powerful as last year's SD820/821

And yet the manchildren of /g/ will shit all over it for being a "low-end chip".

I bet even the Snapdragon 430 is already more powerful than the old 801, ie more than enough for internet, chinese cartoons, etc. But you see people around here chiding it all the time and writing off the new Nokias because "eww gross low end chip". The 600 series gets the same treatment despite the fact that a run-off-the-mill 625 will keep up with an 808 and consume far less power.
>>
Fuck my fucking life

I loved my G2 most of the time, aside from a few times its battery seemed to drain way too fast

It was run over by a car today, upper 2/3rds of the touchscreen too damaged to use so I cannot even gain access to get the files off, it's thretening to delet everything and do a factory reset if I fail to log on one more time. I kinda like that honestly, nice deadswitch of sorts

My old SIIx is a fucking champ. I used it for 3 years and then handed it off to my mom, who is still using it. The damn thing will be 6 years old this summer; I originally bought it before going to university. I've thought about replacing it just because the OS is so old, and I'm worried about her doing something stupid and getting the phone botnetted. But the hardware is still fine.

I agree that, anecdotally, it seems modern Samsung phones have taken a quality hit. But from what I have seen, it started with the S3; worn-out charging ports, broken headphone jacks, overheating, etc. My Galaxy SIIx had literally none of these issues.

Put lineage on my phone a few days ago and now the automatic screen rotation wont work. Is this because of an app, a change in settings or is the gyroscope fucked?
It wont work in safe mode either.

Huawei P10/Plus can definitely be rooted now.

However it is more expensive than the OP3T.

There are no alternatives to these 2 otherwise, if you want root and up to date hardware.

I wanna be memed into one of these

S8 or G6?

Switiching from a Xiaomi Mi Mix, don't ask why.
>>
>>59912962
Why? Didn't like MIUI?
>>
>>59912962
Buy something else than gook phone.
>>
>>59912994
I like a good speaker in a phone, can't find a single video or review/comparison where the speaker of the g6 is compared to the s8 speaker.

The Mix is a good phone, but the lack of decent tempered glass screen protectors, sub-par speaker, sub-par phone speaker (the piezoelectric shit is okay for people who call you with good smartphones, when you're receiving a call from a cordless or some shitty sub 200$ phone god almighty it sounds awful) and the CHINESE software (need to set 200 permission to even use google maps, also cannot download attachments from mail because "download size requires wlan bullshit that apparently is a miui glitch").
>>
I own an s7 because I prefer the os, but it's mainly a thing of home screen limitations on ios, and I even use nova launcher for custom icons and custom app drawer, can I get that kind of stuff on ios? I'm considering it for the hardware aesthetics.

ITT: REDPILL ME
>>
>>59913020
water-resistant phones don't have very good speakers. I don't know if it's always the case but it's usually a known trade-off from phone reviews I've seen.
>>
>>59913063
seconding this.

redpill me if there's a way to

>use stuff like dropbox at its fullest potential (drag and drop files of ANY kind, not just photos/videos/media)

>add ANY sort of notepad/text keeper on the home screen (without resorting everytime to open the note app)
>>
I hope that Nokia will rise again. I'm tired of this gook rule in phone markets.
>>
Anyone have a Mi5? Why are its pictures oversaturated? Can it be fixed? It's shit.
>>
>>59913276
Mi5 just has a shit camera. Every Xiaomi phone does.

It's a mix of software limitation and shit hardware design. Did you know you can make the redmi note 3 pro camera better by taking the phone apart and rotating the camera sensor?

Not many chinkphones have a decent camera in them. Meizu, Lenovo/Zuk, and LeEco are the ones I can remember off the top of my head.
>>
>>59913020
Pretty much every screen has some type of curve these days which makes finding a glass screen protector that fits next to impossible
>>
>>59913371
My Zuk Z2 has full screen sized tempered glass protectors. Why don't other phones?

OK boys, leaf (Canada) here. Looking to jump from Wind/Freedom to Rogers.

Right now, I've got a Huawei Ascend G7 on a $35 unlimited talk/text/data plan with Freedom (Ontario wide). I don't think Freedom is gonna go anywhere so I'm gonna jump ship over to Rogers.

My dad's work has a corporate discount thing with Rogers, so the rest of my family all have phones on a Share Everything plan with Rogers (phones are slightly cheaper and plan is 30% off as a result of the corporate discount).

I can either do an LG G6 32GB for $180 or a Google Pixel 128GB for $330.

I would go for the Pixel 32GB, but no expandable storage means I'm locked into about 24GB for the life of the phone, unlike the G6 which is expandable.

I was originally going to go for the Pixel XL 128GB, but fuck paying an extra $150 for a .5" larger screen.

Basically, Google Pixel 128GB for $330 or LG G6 32GB for $180?
>>
>>59913514
Google Pixel. I have a Pixel XL and it's awesome. Any LG phone is a bootlooping piece of shit that's worse than cheap chinkshit. I'd strongly recommend against it.
>>
>>59913541
Sounds anecdotal-- you sure a Pixel is worth nearly twice the cost of a G6? Have you tried one? Keep in mind, all I really do use is social media, Opera, VLC and Spotify.
>>
>>59913572
Fuck contract prices.

You better know how contract pricing works, you're paying the same shit in the end

>you sure a Pixel is worth nearly twice the cost of a G6?
Yes. Any phone is better than an LG piece of shit. I hardly doubt G6 is any better than their previous phones.

>t. owned nexus 4 and nexus 5, dad has an lg g3
>>
>>59913063
You have to jailbreak for ricing fun.
>>
>>59913600
The difference is because of the MSRPs, not because of the contract prices. I get the same plan either way.
>>
>>59913687
Yeah but really, I just wouldn't recommend LG phones period.
>>
Canada, Rogers but probably gonna go to Freedom

Long story short, my choice for a new phone are between the Samsung A5 (2017) or the Huawei Nova Plus. I could upgrade to the G6 but currently am >poorfag

What do you guys think/
>>
>>59913770
Don't go to Freedom. I've only used their old network, so I don't know about their new one, but the old one has shitty coverage and service.

What's the point in having unlimited data if you can't use it without paying overage charges half the time anyways?

If you need a cheapo plan, just get a budget phone off contract (maybe the new Moto G?) and get a Public Mobile sim. It's basically Telus, they just don't sell phones, like at all. Only sims. Still better than Freedom if it is what everyone says it is.
>>
Looking for a device that comes with stock or near-stock Android Nougat, has a 3.5mm, removable battery and expandable storage.

Looking to use it with the Ting carrier in the US.

I've been looking at this so far
>http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_g5-8454.php

Wonder if ya'll have better recommendations.
>>
>>59913862
Moto G is the way to go for budget phones. You could do Samsung, but with how bloated their OS is and how shitty their hardware is in budget phones, there's literally no reason to get a Samsung over a Moto G.
>>
>>59913847
this

go with koodo prepaid if low usage, go with public mobile if high usage. depends on your usage really.
>>
>>59913862
I don't know anything about that carrier though, be careful and make sure you get a compatible device.
>>
>>59913884
In that case if I really had to go with a Moto G, probably just the regular G5, and not the Plus model as that one for some reason doesn't have a replaceable battery without disassembling the phone, that's a deal breaker for me.
>>
>>59913887
This

Also, if you're looking at Public, make sure to go for a 90 day plan-- you can get province wide talk, global text and 6GB (so 2GB per month) for $120 (or $40 per month) right now.

They've had double data promos before, so province wide talk, global text and 12GB (or 4GB per month) for $120 (or $40 per month). They had that for a couple months last year, I don't know if it's popped up since though. Might not show up again, who knows.
>>
>>59913902
Ting runs both GSM and CDMA, so I should be good if I get an unlocked all mobile network supported device

https://ting.com/coverage
>>
>>59913904
I would personally go for the Plus-- I'm not a very heavy user, so I don't need a removable battery. If you absolutely need a removable battery, go for the G5, if you can do without, go for the G5 plus.
>>
>>59913944
my dad's phone wouldn't get LTE on public mobile for some reason, it was a hassle.
>>
>>59913985
I'll see, maybe I can make the compromise, I just don't want to have to take it apart a couple of years down the line just to replace the aging Li-ion
>>
>>59913990
Strange. I'm lucky enough to have a parent whose job has a corporate deal with Rogers, so we get a Share Everything plan with a fair discount. I'm about to transfer on, but I can't decide between LG G6 or Pixel. I posted further up, I don't know if I should bother paying an extra $150 for a Pixel over the G6.
>>
>>59914025
i already told you, don't get an lg phone.
>>
>>59914000
I think I came across wrong. Lemme change my opinion a bit. If you need the power upgrade in the Plus, that might be worth choosing over the regular G5. If you can do without the upgrades of the G5 Plus, then you can just get the G5 and also not worry about the battery replacement whenever you want to do that. It's all subjective-- do you want less powerful with an easily replaceable battery or more powerful without a replaceable battery?
>>
>>59913847
I don't go outside the Zones that much which was the appeal to the plan. Speeds are alright for what I do.

Phone options are the ones listed before: A5 2017 or Nova Plus. I tried a few of the G series but Canada doesn't get the best Gs and the ones we get here didn't really grab me.
>>
>>59893731
>>59894405
Being a cheap phone doesn't justify you as a shit user.
Moto G is a fine phone.

>>
>>59907446
I'm using an S5 right now and usability is still fine for my usage, I am running a custom ROM so you might not get the same result.
Battery life is a bit below average but I'm using the battery it first came with. If I bought a new battery it'd be a fair amount better.
The camera is still good, probably average by today's standards but it's in no way bad at all
>>
>>59909012
The Nokia is expensive because people are reselling the Chinese version on eBay. Won't get LTE in the US. Once it comes here officially it will drop in price. If you need a phone now get the Moto.
>>
>>59913955
They have access to both networks but not at the same time. You have to choose which one to use. You can switch from one to the other pretty easily though, you just need a new sim card.
