Build using secondhand parts senpai
Granted, I would avoid secondhanded Harddisks, but CPUs, mobos, GPUs and SSDs should be fine. Moving parts tend to get fucked over time.

Right now best equilibrium of everything is the lenovo yoga 720, for 1500$ you get a 4k 100% srgb display, a gtx 1050, a 7700hq, 16gb of ram, 1tb hdd + 512ssd, 9 hours of battery life, good trackpad and keyboard, 360 hinge, wacom pencil support and a really clean and elegant aesthetic, its just out but i alrradt bought one, you can always wait for a bit ok weeks for independant reviews but i can already tell you this thing is a beast.

You're seriously wanting to make him cry as levono deposit sheckles into your account? The 1050 will probably run hot just powering the fucking pixles.

You can run games natively at 1080 on a 4k display since scaling is integral, retard

Buy a refurbished or used laptop and replace the internals. Most of the time you should be fine, Look at /tpg/ or other similar laptops to the Thinkpad like the Dell Precision if you want a powerful laptop for cheap. I am going to buy a used Dell m4800 soon, its relatively new and I can replace the ram, hdd with an ssd and other internals for much less than buying a new laptop.
