Controlling machinery

The UK government use it for financial stuff

The UK transport network uses it for various things

Certain businesses use something like DOS for databases

You'd be surprised by how much old software is still in use. Plenty of fairly modern cash registers run Windows 2000. Meanwhile the faggots on here complain when somebody is using a browser from 3 months ago.
>>
I think it serves some purpose for HAM radio stuff or something. A friend of mine used FreeDOS not too long ago.

Those systems shouldn't be connected to the internet.
A browser is.

Tell me the real danger of using an old browser.
>>
I know that in addition to Windows executables, some laptop manufacturers provide BIOS updates as a DOS disk image that on boot immediately starts the update process (or something like that). Can't think of another option for laptops running a Linux distribution or a BSD exclusively.
>>
Many manufacturing companies use old computers to control the machines, they usually run custom DOS applicatoions

There's some jurisdictions (mostly in Europe, I think) that have regulations stating that all computers must be sold with an operating system installed. System-builders and resellers in such areas install FreeDOS as the "No, fuck off, I don't want a Windows license" option.

minuscule codebase + 40 years of bugtesting means it's basically the most stable OS in existance

The fact that there are still machines running from when it was on the market is a testament to that.
