Xbox and ps4 are literally just shitty pcs and Nintendo has been on a downward slope since smart phones became huge for gaming for everyone who had a wii.
Building a 700 dollar pc that can preform better than all 3 choices and lasts longer is just a better option.

Personally, if they start selling preinstalled games on some sort of eMMC cartridges(eMMC supports up to 400MB/s), where to you can download patches, save files without a need of filling console's hard drive, maybe I'll consider buying a console

The Xbone / PS4 are selling a higher amount of units than the PS3 / 360 did.
If anything, consoles got a bit more popular - just because you outgrew videogames doesn't mean everyone else did.
Also, consoles have 'brand' & exclusive studios - which means first-party games that guarantee console sales like Mario Kart, Halo, Uncharted, etc. unlike the PC.. which has shit like Undertale
They're still going to sell high because normies/kids buy into the hype.

The ones that are actually dying are handheld game players, which was a stupid gimmick in the first place. PSP, Vita, Nintendo DS, nobody cares about them anymore. However, they were always a fad and shouldn't have even been lumped in with the rest of game consoles in the first place. If people nowadays wanna play portable games, they turn to their smartphones 99% of the time.

Then there's outliers like the Nintendo Wii, which was clearly also a fad as indicated by the lack of interest in subsequent versions.

Lastly there's the classic gaming consoles, of which current gen sales are on par with the sales of previous gen consoles. Common sense should tell you that when people ask about gaming consoles, they're referring to these types (xbox 360, PS3, etc.).

The market isn't shrinking as rapidly as these stats seem to indicate, it's just that they lumped in handheld game players with classic gaming consoles, which are really two completely different markets.
