The sd_notify system is a pretty suckless and unix-like method for a daemon to signal readyness (essentially just write to a Unix socket passed by environment variable when initialization is done) that could be implemented easily by other init systems.

It's a pretty good OS. I'm still waiting for terminald and browserd tough.
