>... facing felony charges after investigators executed a search warrant at his Mount Kisco home on April 7. Authorities were investigating a CyberTipline report filed by Google, in which the company said someone had uploaded child pornography to a Google Plus Photos account associated with an IP address traced to Zaccari's home.
>Bail for Zaccari was set at $25,000 cash, and as a condition of bail, he is not permitted to be around children under the age of 17.

Intel Management Engine and whatever the fuck the AMD equivalent is called are sub-processors that basically have full access to the CPU and memory. They are blackboxes that cannot be disabled or circumvented, and they only run code signed by Intel or AMD (for each respective management engine). Because they have full access to your system, it's impossible to tell what they're doing without examining the physical hardware signals.

google reporting a random user would have a higher chance of catching a pedo then having a hash collision cause a report

>>

>truecrypt
Nice try NSA, you ain't fooling no one.
>>
>>59853135

Likely the latter. A bit more of a legal channel, really.

>>59853141

Depending on the hashing algorithm in question, it is entirely possible for another image to match the same hash. It would seem reasonable to have someone double check just in case. Reporting someone for uploading unrelated content that merely matched the same hash could result in legal problems for them.

>>59853188

Image recognition algorithms are another possibility, but it is worth noting that image recognition is not exactly an easy problem.
>>
>>59853265
Would Google use such a hashing algorithm for matching CP images though?

I do agree that image recognition isn't an easy problem, I mentioned it because they probably have to train their software using humans and have the results checked more often.

>>59853294
You might be confusing two different concepts. It's feasible (though I don't think anyone has done it yet) to train a neural network to recognize possible CP. It's easy (and is being done right now) to check the hash of a file against a database of known CP file hashes. But that kind of neural net would never (imo) be trained only on a dataset of file hashes labeled "CP" and "not CP", because the contents of most hashes has very little to do with the contents of the file (to an extent that it causes shitstorms when a hash turns out to correspond more then desired, see MD5 and recently SHA1).

Yahoo did release an ML model designed to recognize NSFW images. Recently (past six months? Year?) someone trained a NN (maybe working from Yahoo's thing?) to recognize various porn genres to the extent that it could automatically tag videos pretty accurately. On mobile or I would try to look it up and link you.
>>
>>59853460
Just realized I missed something - to be explicit, my understanding is that one would NEED to train one's NN on actual samples of CP for it to be worth anything.

This raises moral questions of course, and nobody wants to be sitting on a massive dataset of CP. That's likely another reason why hashing approaches are popular - you can save all the hashes after a raid, destroy the originals, and be happy.

>>
>>59853579

It's even watermarked and distributed so they can trace it back to the source.
>>

>>
>>59853579
Yes. They distribute it.

>>59852666
Yes. The future will be rife with planting evidence that incriminates users. You get into someone's router, distribute some popular cp and they're getting a knock on the door.

It's bad enough in other ways now. The left can accuse you of rape and ruin your life and the right accuses you of being a pedi and ruins your life.
>>
>>59853153
They can spoof it so it looks like it came directly from your device. Imagine if someone could make themselves look exactly like you, then they commit a crime they know you'll get caught for where you have no alibi. What can you possibly do about it?
>>
>>59853690

Good lock up the pedo.

but what a about fathers and family photos it rasies moral questions as machines can't tell between sex , gender, mothers or fathers and its a very primitive AI even now.

Yes this is a AI question.
Also flaws in the AI are present and essaibated by forcing the AI to block out common words like IF, THE, A and other joining words that can change the contex of a image.

I don't like juinor AI working IRL to be a serious cyber crime fighter on its own.
Although I know this is the way of the future but AI needs to be smarter before like this type of crime fighting , I want it to catch the real crims not vanuble fathers and caregivers

that said I see AI going along way.

>>
>>59852979
They probably use hashes of known child pornography that they get from the FBI and automatically check uploaded pictures or videos.

I hardly think they'd manually look through everything people upload.
>>
>>59854088
I believe that they get the hashes from NCMEC, which works with the FBI to categorize CP and then maintains a database of hashes that they can distribute to cloud providers, isp, etc.

One of NCMEC's biggest tasks is categorizing whether CP from new investigations is actually new, or part of older sets, and helping to identify victims and abusers.

Also, since hashes are easily changed, I believe most large cloud providers are now using Microsoft's PhotoDNA which can identify images even after they've gone through color shift or cropping.

I know that MS, Google, and FB are all using PhotoDNA.

They track that shit enough to know if it was actually you or not. An imposter would have to not only spoof his IP, and by extension location, but also know his login credentials and have it not show up as a different computer to google's servers which track that. Google, FB, Microsoft all do this. They have both automated systems, primarily PhotoDNA, for detecting cp, and then manual examination as well.

Moot said in a Q&A once that 4chan maintains a hash list of cp they get from NCMEC and that any new cp is automatically reported to NCMEC. If you try and post an image that's already on the hash list you are auto banned without the pic even making it to the thread.

The right to privacy does not mean you can go to people watching things you dont like involving you and use government force to usurp clearly defined basic rights like the first amendment grants.

Same exact thing I said with murder videos and the like.

The steps necessary that have been taken already to infringe our first amendment to this degree is frightening already. Ask yourself if it's really worth it to stop some imagined scenario where your mom gets raped, it's filmed and also goes out before the guys caught and is spread? Not to me.

Hence there is press freedom for that. If something you do in private is relevant for the public, they can publish details about it.

>some imagined scenario where your mom gets raped, it's filmed and also goes out before the guys caught and is spread
How is it an imagined scenario? It's a pretty basic one when it comes to CP and the likes.

>our first amendment to this degree is frightening already
Then maybe better fight infringements that are absolutely pointless like the whole TSA security theater or the right to spy on everyone? Trying to prevent the spread of content that only humiliates the victims further is not effecting the rights of any normal person.

>Same exact thing I said with murder videos and the like.
There are more complicated in some scenario. A video of a terrorist attack/protest has some relevance for the public. Seeing some guy getting beat up and killed doesn't.
>>
>>59856293
What? With the internet your first point is negated. It doesn't work like that. If it's floating out for free access it's too late to stop it.

>How's it an imagined scenario

I meant the mom scenario. Regardless that's irrelevant to my points.

>Then maybe fight infringements that are pointless

You don't get it. This infringement is pointless and far more damaging than a fucking TSA checkline

The pedo witch hunt is what has started and given the power for further infringements like what the NSA does now, it is the same as blindly using terrorism as a justification for any sort of violation or overreach.

>Relevance for the public

Nowhere are these restricting criteria listed in our first amendment rights and nor should they be. Already I can watch some Mexican be murdered, would you prefer people to go to prison for watching such things?

Please consider for a second outside the moral posturing the practice argument of enforcement and what that means for the state of the internet and laws in whichever country you reside.

Which prioritize the right of someone to violate others privacy and dignity for kicks. Not the best points.

>as blindly using terrorism as a justification for any sort of violation or overreach
The problem here is simply that it literally does nothing to help dealing with terrorism while only takes rights from citizens. In case of CP it takes rights of passive perpetrators to lower the harm to victims with almost no effect to everyone else. When CP/terrorism/piracy are used as justification for some crazy surveillance programs, doesn't mean they are related to it. The problem is the program itself, since it doesn't do what it's officially intended for.

>first amendment
>Ideas from the 18th century are not sufficient in the 21th
Who could've guessed.

>would you prefer people to go to prison for watching such things?
Not necessary right away but something like a 3 strike would make perfect sense here. Gore porn has no benefit for the public while there is suffering for the victim and people who know him. Plus obviously desensitization to violence.

>practice argument of enforcement
Take the guy in OP. He choose to accept Googles policy and got caught by algorithms. Nobody else gets affected.

>>
>>59856411
>a thought to enforcement for once
Blacklisting sites like that from search engines already cuts them off from most fans. Automatic algorithms should take care of the majority of cloud storage. Add some legislature to block the sites and sue the owners. Undercovers for the really big targets.

Won't fix the problem but should minimize the amount of the shit in the open, which is the point.

There is no hard evidence to suggest current laws stop or effect any kind of child abuse and in fact correlation based evidence exists to suggest the contrary.

>Not the best points

That we don't use the cops to knock down peoples doors for consuming a video shared on the internet? If someone posts a dumb pic of me cumming on myself at a party I can't arrest everyone who downloads it.

>Go it takes the rights of passive perpetrators

That's where your wrong. A violation of free speech in any capacity is a violation to all. Rights aren't only rights when you use them they exist for all.

>Ideas from the 18th century are not sufficient in the 21th

I honestly hope you're fucking joking. Those ideas are basis for our civilization and the rights we do actually have left.

There are lots of things that aren't illegal that are not beneficial to the public. I do not want to hand over my rights and freedom to bureaucrats and people like you to determine what is or isn't beneficial to me.

I have no issue with private companies deciding to run their businesses how they want. Even if it does involve petty censoring of search results. When you bring in government it's when you violate rights.

>Which is the point

None of you idiots ever question what you're doing. You just assume it's correct, at the detriment to all of us and the detriment of liberty.

See the link I posted above. I'm going to sleep.

>the only people that consume murder videos and such are 14 year old edge lords

Nice argument.

My best friend is a 26 year old economist. He just got married, and is in no way an edgy teen. For some reason he goes on those 'watch people die' subreddits and watches all the videos. I don't really understand it, but he definitely does not deserve to go to jail.

>>
>>59856500
>There is no hard evidence to suggest current laws stop or effect any kind of child abuse
They affect the spread of videos of the abuse, which is their fucking point.

>I can't arrest everyone who downloads it.
Assuming you have proof that X has it, why not?

>Rights aren't only rights when you use them they exist for all.
Tell that to people in prison.

>Those ideas are basis for our civilization
Some are. Others are outdated shit that was outdated back in its day.

>I do not want to hand over my rights and freedom
And why should your right for freedom be more important than the victims right for privacy? Society is always a compromise and one that prioritizes the perpetrators over the victims makes no sense.

I'm paying £0.79 a month for 50GB of iCloud storage. I use it basically to store my iPhone backups. For that its very useful, nightly backups because I don't want to bloat my SSD with backups of 2 iPhones. Its automatic in the sense that, well, its automatic. You can set certain times or just have it so that it backs up close to every day when connected to wifi and power.

This is the next big thing. We've reached a point where everything is so backdoored and interconnected that there is basically no way of really knowing if something is real or a plant.

Yet the general public is so deluded and the law so corrupt it functions in exactly the opposite way. I recently saw a printout of a whatsapp message log being used in an actual court as proof of domestic abuse. The only thing that prevented that guy from losing his house, kids and freedom was that he secretly recorded his wife abusing HIM.

Dark times ahead desu. Re-watch John Hurt's great 1984 and take notes because you're going to need them.

Actually it should. I mean, I would hope law enforcement would destroy the material as soon as the case is over and leaking it should be a crime.

But if it's out there, it shouldn't be a crime for my perverted neighbor to watch it.

It is much more likely that there is a true story there, but it has been misreported by a journalist who doesn't really know what the relevant issues are to properly report on it.

As someone who works in the justice system and interacts with journalists, shit that I deal with in court is misreported in material ways regularly simply because they journalists don't know what they are talking about.
