I just spun around Gnome 3 the other day in a VM, it's honestly not that bad, pretty similar to Unity (which is obv built off Gnome 3). I think it will be easy transition for u guys but that top bar in Gnome 3... idk wtf they were thinking

everything built off Gnome 3 is better than it. Budgie, Cinnamon, Unity etc

i don't blame you. i am sure that Ubuntu will come bundled with a tweaked version of it, because as it is rn by default, it's a huge downgrade from Unity

I'm not a fan either, I just said it's not THAT bad. it's not like... KDE bad

it literally says ubuntu in the screenfetch.
But that's basically debian, so you're kinda right.

If you really need PS and Illustrator then there is no great option for that

I feel like games is no longer an argument. it has a huge library of great games.
Sure it has less than windows, but so does xbox or ps4 or switch.
Its just like it's own console. I never heard a ps4 user complain he can't play halo...

this is a good point
i suppose it's just that the same hardware *can* run windows and the game in question, making it easier to 'blame' linux compared to your example

>>
>>59847514
>I just want a basic ass rice ya know: Dock, with workspace switcher.
if that's really all you want, then just a WM + a dock might do
i personally just use openbox and tint2, tint2 isn't very dock-like, but there are other options (i'd give an example, but i don't like docks much)
>>
>>59847514
Basically every environment is the same for ricing you retard. Remove the panel/dock and do whatever the fuck you want. The only real exception is Unity which doesn't let you remove the dock.
>>
>>59847556
im set on XFCE methinks. I @wiki.installgentoo.com it looks like the choice of WM is key in look and feel... jus too much to choose from man...

yea, making your initial judgements and settling on stuff is a pain
just remember it's all optional, you can just pick whatever looks alright and play with other things later on
you can have multiple DE's installed at a time, just like other software
trying new DE's is quite painless

What DE is best for ADHD people that like to abuse quick launch icons, show as much information on the screen at the same time as possible with tiny icons and tiny text, and use keyboard shortcuts to do things quickly?

I basically hate "modern" and "clean" UIs like GNOME that try to encapsulate everything behind menus. I want everything out in the open and immediately accessible. I want as many buttons as a space shuttle cockpit. Preferably a lot of common tasks should be accomplished through keyboard shortcuts because it's faster than a mouse, and not annoying shortcuts that require me to take my 2nd hand off my mouse.
