Vim is the best if you know what you're doing because you make it into exactly what you want a text editor to be/do.

Sublime Text is the best if you just want a text editor that does text editor things.

Have you tried emacs with evil mode? It's like vim but with a better language to customize it with.

whats up with people shilling VSCode? I see these threads a couple times a day now, at least. I never believed in companies paying posters to create these threads on 4chan but this is eerie.

Shills will always exist. They don't need to be paid by a company, just have great pride in using (most likely misplaced) their products.

Whichever one you can drive with your eyes closed, because having the editing process in muscle memory lets you concentrate on the work you're doing instead of the tool your using.

it's a text editor, what maintenance needs?
Actually for one file editing I think Sam is superior

No but I feel like it would be kind of pointless since I would only end up with the same configuration. Have you gone from Vim to Emacs?

That's because Vim has been around for 20 years and has cultivated an organic movement. There is also no corporation like Microsoft behind Vim.

It's not comparable.

The naive people are the people who can't see the obvious shilling going on right in front of them. You're literally stupid if you don't believe in shilling, not even trolling.

vim>emacs>>>wpe>nano>>>>>>>>>everything else

vim gets exponentially more comfy and powerful the more you read the manual. emacs gets linearly more comfy and powerful the more external code you add to it.

>but muh evil mode

so you admit that making emacs behave more like vim improves the editor?

I've never heard someone espouse the greatness of emacs in the context of text editing, only in terms of how much extra stuff you can add to it. I suppose for a windows user this might be appealing, but for most people the energy spent installing plugins would be better spent learning how to use the other tools already present on their machine.

what do they even gain?
the software is free, the code is foss, it doesn't even integrate with their paid software products so they can't convert people to MS ecosystem shit through VSC.
