I don't have a problem with 128x128 icons.
If you think about it, there really is no reason to have everything be teeny tiny if you have the room to put bigger things on screen.

No one needs 70 icons on their screen at once with 12 point text that they need to strain to see. Use your screen real estate you paid for to strain your eyes less and clutter your mind less.

I have zero problems navigating apps on an iPhone, even though only 24 icons will fit on the screen at once, I can just make additional screens. You know, virtual desktops in a sense. 128x128 icons + virtual desktops is the way to go.

It really makes you think how after the news of Mark killing Unity, we suddenly have all these threads shilling the GNOME desktop. It's like they want to condition us to the idea of their shitty desktop. But the reality is most people will rather Install Windows 10 or buy a Mac than having to use GNOME on their computers.

Also notice how the ones that have been celebrating the linux failure of Unity dying are precisely these GNOME fanboys that are happy that the competition is now dead.

Notice how hypocrite they are. When it suits them Linux is about choice and bla bla bla, But, when Canonical created Unity a desktop that created competition to GNOME and Red Hat, all these shills were screaming how mean Canonical has the NIH syndrome and spreading FUD about them.

When Ubuntu integrated Amazon suggestions in their DE, that commie Stallman was the one to spread FUD and call them spyware. But when GNOME exposes your private files in Google Drive without any encryption no one says anything.

All Canonical ever contributed was repackaging Debian, and you've been bested there by Mint for ages anyway. The things you tried to contribute upstream (upstart, mir, unity) were all bested by far higher quality Red Hat stuff (systemd, wayland, gnome). how about showing the situation on an actual computer screen?

The problems are as follows:
Libreoffice's interface is a complete disaster. It's beyond saving, it needs to be rethought and redone from scratch. Toolbars, sidebars, file menus, settings - it's all literally unusable.
Actually, that goes for all open-source office programs, see Gnumeric and it's toolbars.
Libreoffice doesn't make use of Gnome's AppMenu.
Gnome 3 doesn't offer you to shove application's File menu into AppMenu. Or to put File menu into the window's title bar and make it appear on hover, since it's not going to be populated with useful things anyway (because libreoffice devs don't give a shit about gtkheaderbar, or design and usability in general). Or to make File menu appear on hover right next to the running app name on top bar. No extensions, no hacks, nothing.

Except KDE has it's own problems it is a fucking mess and it would give OCD to a normal person after 20 minutes of usage.

The other DE's you mentioned are old, meant for computer with low resources.

Unity was the only modern desktop environment that offered you sane defaults (unlike GNOME) and didn't required you to waste your time configuring stuff like KDE.

It worked out of the box. But now it is dead. Yeah you can still use it but there are no security patches and Unity 8 development is over.

>Linux community cancer.

This whole Unity stuff really opened my eyes about the Linux Community: it turns out it is not this magical place of people collaborating together to build good open software, but rather it is full of politics, power struggles and double standards.

Now that Red Hat has eliminated his most powerful competitor on the desktop, they have practically 100% control of the Linux desktop, Gnome is sponsored by Red Hat, they also own systemd, SELinux and most of the underlying components of your Linux system.

It is not really different from Windows or OS X where one company owns everything. Now do I trust Red Hat? Well I trust them as much as I trust Microsoft. So in the end for me it is a matter of convenience and Windows wins there by far.

The funny part is that Free Software murdered Ubuntu.

Well... Yes. Exactly. Explaining to me how it's an extension isn't an argument.
>>
>>59829812
The issue is that your shitty extensions are javascript scripts.
>>
>>59829812
Extensions are supposed to provide customization/extra features, not to provide basic features because the devs are incompetent and have a clear policy of never listening to the users.

It's the same thing, anon. I use Unity and Gnome. Gnome is slightly better.Unity just didn't have the resources to compete. You may not like Gnome Foundations practices, but to deny Unity and Gnome are very similar, is just retarded.

>indications that tell us which DE's are the most popular and which aren't
And those indications tell us that gnome-shell and unity are probably the most used distros and that it's impossible to distinguish which userbase is higher.
Debian and fedora both use gnome as their default, and there are plenty of gnome users on distros like arch and suse.
Ubuntu is the only distro to ship unity and whatever usage counter you are looking at, is it including *ubuntus as well?
Going by that, whichever DE is used more is highly contested.

>I am pretty sure the average joe intermediately installs the GNOME desktop, after an Ubuntu install like this delusional faggot is implying.
I'm not implying anything of the sort, you projecting little shit. I was pointing out issues associated with DE usage analysis. Btw, only with ubuntu can you say most of its users use unity, because of all the "remixes". Other distros don't do that.

>GNOME is clutt-

GNOME was never cluttered. The problem with GNOME is that it has very limited customizability, deliberately, by design.

The developers of GNOME couldn't figure out how to develop the customizability options well -- so they simply assumed that it's not possible to provide customizability without confusing the user. It's a conclusion that only untalented developers would reach.

How do you change the font that is used in GNOME shell's top bar? There is one correct answer and it's not editing some js files by hand.

>It really makes you think how after the news of Mark killing Unity, we suddenly have all these threads shilling the Unity desktop.
Before the announcement every Unity thread would have

>Amazon
>Unity

and the standard Xubuntu/Mate shills. It's only after the announcement that defending Unity suddenly became popular because /g/ is contrarian just for the sake of being so. Can confirm: I'm a pre-kill Unity shill.

The facts are that Unity is shit technology-wise and performance-wise. Functionality-wise it's the best DE if only because it's basically macOS done better. Unity will only survive when someone announces a Unity fork that runs on Wayland but everyone is fighting Wayland because memes and the (unpaid) open-source community is resistant to change.

I would otherwise like to use GNOME but it is too laggy. Being laggy is unacceptable, my machine isn't the highest end but it isn't very old (i3, intel graphix)

I switched to xfce. It is ok.

What version of GNOME did you have installed? It's not laggy for me, and having to also configure a secondary compositor for xfce just fucking blows
