How much was the watch? Also, what non-free parts of the watch software remain? I can't imagine that LG would release all of the code down to the bootROM. What is it good for other than being a wrist fedora that displays notifications from your phone? And one last question, how hard is it to install this alternative OS, as in how automated is the install process? 1 being very vague instructions written in broken English with an incomplete CLI tool and 10 being a single click app.

I got my watch new in-box on ebay for $70, you could easily snag it for $50 though. The bootloader on the watch is still non-free, but perhaphs in the future this can be resolved. All partitions on the watch can be flashed to so anything is possible. You described it well, it's for lazy people, and if you want to develop on it, for bored people. It's as simple as fastboot flashing a partition image and a boot image, then it just werks. I'm sure there are noobtool fastboot applications available for Winshit or something, but I find the "fastboot" command to be very simple and easy to use. So it's your choice of either 3/10 or 8/10. There isn't anything that offers a single button click lol...

I got an LG urbane for christmas

Not really sure what to do with it except throw on some free watch faces.

I don't like how fast these things eat battery, and it's annoying that in the power saving mode it turns off inside of 5 seconds instead of, say, 10 or 30, and I can't change it anywhere. I also can't disable the gesture that turns it on when you flick it. Constantly turns itself on just from natural movement when I'm not even trying to look at the time.

I honestly wouldn't consider these watches worth it until you can leave it on for 3-7 days without recharging. I'm getting about 20 hours on mine. Not even sure if you can replace the battery in it.

Asteroid OS solves this problem by keeping the screen off unless you want to use it, and then you just tap or swipe the screen to see it. I can get an easy 6 days out of it. Probably more if I didn't constantly fidgit with it.

Pebble already had this, my Steel goes 7 days between charges, I can see it easily in broad sunlight, and it's always on. I just wanted notifications on my watch, I don't want or need "apps" on a dinky touch-screen strapped to my wrist and I didn't want some enormous thick puck of a watch either. I got mine for $40 on Amazon recently, no regrets.
