Probably it has already been asked, but what does /g/ think about that book and that method?

Outdated.
Noone cares about version 2 anymore and you would shoot yourself in the foot if you spend time learning it.

What would you recommend for an absolute noob to start learning Python? Could be anything, links, books, programs whatever.

pirated video tutorials, lynda, udemy, pluralsight... the list goes on.
watch tutorials with real projects, theory is useless if you already know basic c-based syntax

Online book

find youtube video series that doesn't annoy you. I don't know python, prefer php but...
I like Derek Banas. He is good. Fast, doesn't beat around the bush. His videos don't annoy me.

If python, he also does Django videos

It's going to be updated for Python 3 soon anyways
Thanks for all the answers, will dive right in.

>no one cares about python 2 anymore
Nice meme.
Most scientific computing is still done in python 2.
>>59808222
He's good at what he does. I prefer php and laravel.

I don't like his stuff. He's a good writer but it seems like he wants to entertain people rather than educate them.

I'm going into my second year uni of life sciences and we're using python 3 in our programming module. Kinda does suck considering I only know python 2
>>59808234
Isn't like numpy/pandas moving closer to support 3 only? They're already compatible with 3 anyways
>>59809711
If you know Python 2 and you find Python 3 completely different, you are retarded.
>>59809929
Never attempted anything to do with python 3 in my life, I presumed it would be mostly the same but its just slightly Inconvenient having to learn what's different
>>59809929
This. I've reversed engineered a couple of python programs written in python 2 to fit my python 3 based IDE - trust me it was not very hard.
