at 55-65" you can easily see the difference between a 1080p TV and a 4k tV.

The LG OLED is generally agreed to have a great picture. If you have any intention of playing vidya or hooking it up to your PC, though, it's not a great choice, mainly because of the sky high input lag.
I use a similar model 55 inch Sony for my PC display, no regrets. Has both 4k/60 and 1080/120 options and combinations in between.

The main problem is the gimmick doesn't offer much of anything unless there is media supporting it. Most broadcast of cable is in 1080p at best. Games struggle at 4K as well. And spending 4 to 7 times as much on a TV just for upscaling is asinine.

Vizio D series have incredibly low input lag and are great for gaming. I have a 50" 4K one and can't say enough good things about it. Really well priced as well.

Meh. Unless you have a bunch of content for it, it makes no difference. Bought a 49" 4k Toshiba for 180 over Thanksgiving and it's worse than my Panasonic plasma.

I hate when the poor people whine about things they can't afford. It's not all about 4K resolution but current tech is enhancing color, brightness, contrast, and accuracy while reducing long standing problems modern tvs have like banding, light bleed and bad viewing angles.

Sony has more research on driving organic EL panels than anyone else, the idea that they are playing catch up doesn't make alot of sense when they have been producing grade one master monitors for twenty years.

Seems like you are confusing video processing (an area where LG lags behind other makers) and driving tech which has always separated budget and high end displays utilizing otherwise identical panels.
