The phasing out was swift and painless.

Same. I always knew what they were and they were around my computer but I've never actually used one.

I had an assignment. We had to store the presentation we were going to give on a floppy that was due at a certain time, but the actual presentation happened like a month after.
I didn't finish and turned in a half assed copy.
When presentation time came, the floppy didn't work so I was able to put a completed presentation copy I had at home on a floppy and bring it to work the next day.
Saved my ass being unreliable.
Bloat-limited by design.

It was the near perfect upgrade for what it replaced IMHO. Smaller yet held more data, didn't fold in half as easily, sliding shield to protect it from the elements, read/write tab instead of fucking tape over a notch.
True story: I used to think they were called hard disks because they certainly didn't look floppy to me!
What will be the new storage medium of the future /g/entoomen?

I remember I had like 8 floppy disks back in 2004. They contained...I dont know, software? They could only store up to 8.44 megabytes. Now, I cant find a computer with a floppy drive, so I guess Ill never know what was in those disks...
