I like the hell out of it, and I do believe it sounds better than cheaper amps. It sounds a hell of a lot better than the on board sound, that's for sure. Absolutely no regrets on the purchase.

I'm currently using modded Fostex T50RP Mk.III, these planars really thrive on good amping. I sold my AKG K702 off after using the Fostex for a week or so.

That said, I've definitely got a little old school audiophile indoctrination. My father was big into hi-fi and hundreds of pieces of top grade equipment came and went when I was growing up. So, I had plenty of opportunity to get an idea of what "sound" I like, and what kind of equipment is suited to it. The Lyr 2 does color the sound a bit and the T50RP aren't the most neutral can in the world either, but the sound definitely fits my personal preference while still being measurably superior to most cheaper shit out there.

I hear you, and that's totally reasonable. I honestly wouldn't recommend that someone just getting into it should go and spend hundreds or thousands on gear. For most people, something like a Magni 2 (either version) + Modi 2 (either version) would be all they ever need, with a pair of cans well suited to the amp.

As you climb up the quality ladder in solid state amps, ideally you get better (more accurate) sound reproduction through the entire audible spectrum. There's lots of memetics and handwavium out there unfortunately that makes reading up and making informed decisions more difficult than it should be. Tube amps are a different issue entirely, and they definitely come down to personal preference. I just happen to enjoy the "distortions" they impart on recordings.

Glad you're enjoying that Fulla 2. I haven't had a chance to listen through one, but I got to demo most of Schiits gear at a meet last year. Check out head-fi and see if there's a meet in your area you could check out. Really friendly people and you'll get the chance to try lots of different headphones and amps. See for yourself instead of having to trust things you read on the internet, then you can decide if it's worth upgrading.

If you do get the itch to upgrade in the future, you should strongly consider the Jotunheim. It's a very, very good performing piece of equipment and technically superior in many ways to my amp. It's not terribly expensive, and you can get it with an on-board DAC installed.

Kind of hard to describe. Detail, bass, soundstage in my experience have more to do with circuit design than the presence of tubes. Warmth is part of it, but solid state amps can have "warm" coloration too. I find that tubes sound more "natural" or "relaxed" to me. I've got ideas as to why, but once you start getting into that territory you run the risk of triggering the objectivists who like to call names while throwing numbers around acting like they've accounted for all the variables.

Ultimately, tubes are super comfy to me. The schiit amp is the only piece of tube gear I own, and it scratches the itch well. Other headphone setups I've had I found I only enjoyed listening to for 2-3 hours max. This I can listen to all day without getting fatigued.

My main headphones are a pair of Fostex T50RP Mk. III. They're slightly modified, and I replaced the original flat pads with angled lambskin ones. I installed a modmike and they make an awesome headset.

The Fulla 2 with HD600's is a great setup, you'll probably be very happy with that for a long time. HD600 and 650's are pretty much a standard you can benchmark other headphones off.

50rp's? interesting. Me and my brother both bought a pair of them while ago and they did sound very nice, but both of them developed a crackle/buzz in the left driver after two weeks. I got a replacement from amazon and it did the exact same so my brother didn't buy another one. He does however have a tr40p for work since he works in an office. It's not as good but it's still a decent headphone.

Yeah, the hd600 is pretty fucking good imo. I tried the 650 from amazon, knowing that I could return it and it doesnt sound as correct as the 600. I was expecting it to be a slightly more bassy version of the 60 but it didn't feel that way to me. It's still the second best headphone I've ever tried, but the 600 is clearly better imo.

Huh, strange. I've heard the MKIII's like mine are a notable improvement over the older versions, I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I bought mine at guitar center and I've been using them for about 6 months without issue.

I've considered getting a pair of something like Audeze LCD-2, but I haven't actually been able to demo a pair and I'm hesitant to commit that kind of money, return policy or no.

It's extremely well made, allows for a huge range of positioning. My only complaint is that it only allows 5 degrees of forward tilt. You can tilt the monitor back like 70, but only 5 forward. Not a big deal, but with the vertical stack I'd like to have my top monitor angled down a little more.

I've been looking a little for some kind of adapter that will change the angle 10-15 degrees or so.

X131e to be exact. Underrated model, it was a great buy for the ~100 euros I paid for it when I got it. It isn't quite up there with the old "real" thinkpads but it feels solid, has soft padding here and there, more serviceable than most, proper amount of connections, etc. Proper trackpoint and I actually prefer the keyboard over my X60 (this is surely just because I'm used to chiclet, so the old type feels cramped). Also great driver support on non-Windows OS:s, doesn't even require anything proprietary except for the wi-fi.

Yeah I'll do that, I just need to find some plastick model or something. Many of the soft rubbery mousepads contain some material that, in prolonged use, causes skin irritation for me... I've also considered just making my own so I can pick plastic materials.

I use pic related. It's and amp and sub in one. I bought it years agho when I didn't really know anything about audio, I wanted 5.1 surround sound for my xbox 360 at the time. To be fair, It's actually quite good and I can't see myself upgrading it anytime soon. It's used with my free view box 95% of the time as background noise, but it's pretty good with my ps4 whenever I can be bothered to play it. I can use it with my pc also but I use my headphones most of the time.

I actually currently use it as a monitor stand, so height is not an issue. however whenever I post in these bst threads I always get assblasted for having it on my desk. I don't really care, but if there is a better place for it that would sound better and/or be more a e s t h e t i c, then I would move it.

most people just have it on the ground, and i'd be willing to bet they don't even know why they do, but if you like it where it is that's all that really matters. putting it on different surfaces or having it closer/farther from a wall can change the sound a bit, there are positioning guides online
