what's the difference between VS code and VS 2017?
>>59783451
Amen brotha
Sorry retard I exclusively code in Java so I use the superior netbeans
>>59783456
VS code is a text editor.
VS 2017 is 60Gb of training wheels for Pajeets.
>>59783517
>VS code is a text editor.
but i already have notepad++ for that.
looks like I'll stick with using an actual IDE then.
>>59783400
just stick to notepad++; anything more is just pointless bloat....

It's a wannabe Atom. It also probably bundles spyware.

Literally remove it and compile it yourself. It's FOSS, you can modify it and use it however you want.
using IDEs is best suited for

I've made multiple games in a text editor, also I exclusively use one in my day job for the last 5 years, working with mloc code bases
>>59783747
Enjoy not having all the features of an IDE just because you have a some kind of complex and/or are on the autism spectrum
>>59783617
the VSC extensions for C++ development are quite decent
I'm currenytl working on a video game that's like 20k LoC C++ and a few thousands of Lua and I've had no problems of the text editor holding me back or making it inconvenient to develop
the only think that I'd like to have is MSVS-like debugger, because fuck all the arcane GDB bullshit and fuck trying to debug the STL
although maybe there will be some shortcomings once the codebase grows even bigger
>>59783768
you are not even a normie if you are not on the spectrum, it is current year ffs
IDEs have literally zero (zero) added value if you know what you are doing

IDE's make programming more comfy.
Thinking it has anything to do with "knowing what you're doing" is dumb.
If you truly know what you're doing, you can use fucking notepad.exe to do all your programming, but only some extreme autist would even think of such a thing.

>>59784001
No.
Using an IDE is like screaming "I'm not an autistic manchild and therefore am perfectly fine with using modern tools to ease my productivity".
I'm sorry, but there isn't a single thing you can say that will convince me to stop using VS.

It's only good for webdev. Terrible in most regards for everything else
Is it true that using text editors at early levels make you good?
Every decently advanced text editor will not impede your productivity with regards to editing, and can be extended with advanced autocomplete for a myriad of languages among other features.
I personally use Sublime Text.
>>59784234

This isn't about layers, this is about what using HTML/CSS nodes for GUIs brings along that has to go through the cache hierachy.
Code could be blazing fast if implemented using a properly rendered UI.

I get what you're saying, but the poor performance isn't enough to cause me irritation. I don't even notice that it's technically slow. It doesn't lag or hang, and it doesn't eat my CPU -- even though there was an issue causing a blinking cursor to cause 10% cpu load.
it just werks. as opposed to using vim with a bunch of plugins, it's smooth as fuck.

>>59785440
i hope you realize that is completely reversed....
>>59786191
What issues did you face in Linux? Did you try asking for help? I've had more issues with Windows than Linux and setting up development is quite easier on Linux.
>>59786286
Many more that I have with Windows, decent out of the box NVidia drivers that do actually work w/o losing performance at all, drivers that do actually work with my dual vid card, drivers that actually do HDPI property and many, many more isues, fuck Linux, is for autistic amateurs
>>59786321
That's not Linux's fault, complain to NVidia for not providing proper Linux support. But yes, video drivers are a mess and my last graphics card was AMD purely for this reason.
>>59786365
When that shit works w/o the minimun of stress maybe, but with the switch to wayland, spect at least 3 more years of video drivers stagnation and stability, mean while I need to get shit done now, not when those autistics can put their shit together,
