The same reason why there's sound in space or cars explode when they crash.... It's just there for dramatic effect.

they are just a convinient and universal way of indicating to viewers that something is happening
just like tones in voices, different kinds of beeps and sound effects convey what something is doing, even if you don't understand what it's actually doing (visually or otherwise)

sometimes they go a bit overboard, but i understand why they do it in general
