What do you use and why?
>>
IRSSI
It's the only one that doesnt have an unnecessarily fat interface and lets me split stack different server windows without taking up a quarter of my screen

>terminal client
is this 1969?

Anyway, i use acme+ii
>>
>>59772976
Seamonkey
>>
weechat cuz why use something else? An IRC client is nothing complex, I can send stuff and read stuff. Also nice that I can automatically customize it by customizing my terminal (transparentfag here)
>>
I used to use weechat but there was some annoying bug that I couldn't fix so I just decided to fuck ricing, installed stock irssi and have been happy with it for years now.
>>
>>59772976
hexchat because I like the gui

>>59773065
you know you can use antialiased fonts in acme?
>>
>>59773065

but people still use the terminal on a daily basis for everything....between vim, weechat and tmux I don't have to use anything other than terminal to do my job..
>>
>>59772976
I use weechat because it's the first one I tried and it just works
>>
first tried irssi but never really used it.
then hexchat for a while but i still dont use irc much.
next going to try weechat when i setup my personal machine again but i read between that and hexchat its just preferance.
znc makes more of a difference to than the clients.
>>
I have a Quassel core on my server and then connect to that from my PC
Then quasseldroid on my tablet.
>>
the weechat scripting api is inherently insecure, so irssi for lack of better atlernatives
>>
>>59772976
Used MIRC for years, then XCHAT, now HEXCHAT.

Just want a basic gui interface. I only idle two channels these days anyway.
>>
Serious question here, why do you guys still use IRC? Seems alright but kind of unnecessary
>>
mirc on windows
irssi on linshit
>>
discord-cli cause noone uses irc anymore
>>
>>59772976
ERC in emacs. Why? Because fuck it that's why
>>
>>59777131
I like it because my erc/IRC config follows me wherever my init.el goes.
>>
BitchX because I don't have to configure it use it.
>>
irssi
>>
>>59772976
I use facebook and twitter
>>
>>59775552
Technically it's a terminal emulator.

Hexchat

I don't really talk to anyone. I just use it to leech from bots and lurk people's conversations.

I still use NoNameScript. Have been since 2005 and there's just nothing better.

Irssi is minimal in the sense that it is very bare-bones. It does not have sane defaults. Therefore I prefer Weechat. The program itself may not be minimal, but it's sane defaults mean I don't need to configure much out of the box.

>>59772976
Is that still not dead ?

How do I theme hexchat like that? On mint 18/ buntu 16 so I have version 2.10.2
>>
>>59772976
IRSSI is the best one period, mIRC a close second.
>>
>>59782227
>who the fuck has a irc client preference anyway?
Someone who doesn't want to rewrite all their scripts, or get stuck with some shit client that can't do scripting.
>>
>>59777076

you can make decently intelligent friends there who aren't retarded weebs

I used irssi for seven years and then moved to weechat which I've been using for five years.

Tmux/screen+ weechat+irssinotifier+mosh or vpn = gold standard. Sadly my engineer friends been moving to whatsapp
>>
I used to use irssi, but I tried out weechat, liked it better for my use and switched over to it a year or two ago.
>>
>>59785038
Where? I tried getting on IRC to see if I could replace this shithole. I joined several channels that were relevant to my interests and not a single post was made by anyone in any of them over a 48 hour period. Just people joining and leaving and that's it.
>>
>>59786822
>engineer friends been moving to whatsapp
huge faggots or disgusting pajeets. No other options.

Also, weechat + tmux is the shit.
>>
>>59782367
>web base
might as well use weebchat
