Is overclocking a meme? I got a R9 290 Tri-X from Sapphire too and it's almost overclocked on its own anyway.
I seriously consider the next time I get chips (I guess deeply into 10nm or even at 5nm) to just go stock.
Maybe the only thing needed is to get quality components, though sometimes they are the same.

it is THE consumerism meme

Overclocking is a meme now. It's all about reliability and reduced power usage. If you need more power you should try to write programs that scale out across multiple processors or multiple machines.

Yes, it is.

It depends on your use. The only reason I overclock is for ps3 emulation.

Why did you bother spending more for an OC CPU/mobo?
>>59765977
For some CPUs you do get a sizable performance increase, in others not so much.
Straight performance increase isn't always the point however, sometimes it's just fun to tweak your system and get the most out of it.

Computers are not as fragile as they once were. As long as you monitor temperatures and are aware of the voltage limits of your chip then it is relatively safe.
going from 4.0GHz to 4.8GHz on CPU and a +200/+600MHz on core/memory on GPU has boosted my framerate in solitaire from 31 to 36 so yes it's an important thing to do and every self respecting person does it

gpu bottleneck.
R9 290 overclocks a fuckload. Mine goes from 947/1250mhz to 1120/1460mhz, chances are your tri-x isn't clocked this high.
