Still no Moto G5 vs G5+ comparison?
>>
Got myself some Moto G4 recently.

I see the battery usage as really average, perhaps as much as I had with my previous phone. Problem I see is that what's draining the battery most is what seems like poor connectivity. Mobile network signal gets pretty red even when WiFi is turned on and it seems like it might be the cause of a few quick battery drops.

Is my only solution to use some sort of "profile" so whenever WiFi gets detected it drops data completely?

..t.t.t.thanks for another utterly useless "review" of a phone.

How hard is it for someone to review a phone to actually connect a pair of headphones to it and listen to it? Or test the speaker(s)? Or try actually driving around with the GPS? Or tell us what geekbench and antutu scores it gets? Or share it's battery life and SOT?

There are a few 20 year olds from India on jewtube that manage to actually check and share the important information. It's a bit annoying to listen to their poor indian english but they atleast have something useful to say.

Review like that seems to be written by some 60 year old white guy who never used his phone for more than making a telephone call.

It wont work in Canada on anything other than Rogers.. And only for 6 months(2g is shut down Q4 of this year)

This is why i'm replacing my dual sim phone now... 1 sim is 4G(for data) but my calling/texting sim can only work at 2G if i have 3g/4g on the other sim. I wonder if more people know about this, since i'm guessing theres even less support for 2G is other first world nations.

All of them. Seriously, I have a Moto G3 (Snapdragon 410) and it runs PS1 and GBA full speed. N64 and PSP are iffy I guess, but anything newer should be fine.

Fuck, i'm loving this goddamned phone.
What an upgrade; the fingerprint scanner has been flawless so far, performance is really good too (at most, i multitask, i don't game, outside of light puzzles), and battery life is superb. I don't think i could justify the plus, this fills all my needs, while being way cheaper than what I paid for my Moto X back in the day. Really solid experience, having a removable back, expandable storage, and being smaller are also a plus in my book. Could have a better camera, but hey, it has to have some shortcomings, otherwise no one would buy the plus.

8/10 so far.

700 MB is fine. The only thing that would be an issue is if you have too many apps in the background and you run out of available ram it will close some of those apps but having 700 MBs free should be a non-issue 99% of the time.

I'm currently at work repairing smartphones, if you have questions primarily regarding the insides or issues of Iphone 4 - 7p, Xperia Z - Z5, Samsung s3 - S7 edge or Ipads I'm all ears. If I have one in I could even take relevant pictures but we mostly get Iphone 6/6s phones.

If I want someone to replace the battery in my BlackBerry PRIV phone, who can do it?

I mean, can I send it to blackberry and have them do it ? Can ubreakifix do it?

I don't trust myself in a DYI situation. So I'd rather pay someone.
>>
>>59765308
Dude, change it yourself. Link related.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRj_F7b4JvE

All you need is ONE type of screwdriver for 2 screws and a hairdryer. The back comes off without any tools and the warning about the cables under the battery isn't a problem when you heat it up AND use the included pulltab, so you don't even have to pry it with anything which could damage stuff below. Insert new battery on old tape and put the stuff back and you're done.

It's seriously one of the easiest battery replacements I've seen if you disregard the user replaceable ones with just the pop off back in the way.

What's something(s) that you guys would like to see in reviews which are usually passed over?
>>
>>59766678
Some long term testing.
Usually they take a freshly booted phone and then show you how "snappy" it responds for a couple seconds before they flip over to something else.

Even my mom's adware infested laptop is fast right after booting up. Keep using it to do random shit till the battery is almost drained and then show me its responsiveness again. That would be much more meaningful.

Double finger swipe up - Settings
Fingerprint scanner button (honor 8) 1 click - flashlight
2 click - Chat app

Shake with high intensity - Open email

If you know a lot about how android works, probably not all that difficult granted the chinks you bought it from have some sources to use.
If you don`t know anything about how android actually operates, well good fucking luck if it isn`t a nexus/pixel.

You could find a dev who is really active and is open for another device, buy him one, and then wait for the rom lmao

>>
>>59766678
A LOT of technical shit because majority of phone reviews are directed towards normies who don't understand shit. Erica focuses a lot on screen quality (for good reason), but normies hate it because they love that oversaturated garbage.
I would prefer it if reviewers stopped pretending opening apps = real world representation, or that swiping back and forth on the screen really fast = indicative of how laggy the device is.

Call quality is another huge one. A serious look at the bloat that comes with the phone. Yes, that includes google shit, samsung shit, carrier shit, etc. Usually reviewers gloss over all the bloat, or make a joke about shoving it all into a folder.

The only site that I've found with really detailed phone reviews ironically is not a phone site at all, it's Notebookcheck. They measure shit like the evenness of screen brightness, accuracy of the GPS relative to a dedicated unit, coverage of sRGB and Adobe RGB... typical Krauts. I fnd the reviews are pretty exhaustive and technical. They also chide manufacturers for bloat-ridden ROMs, when present, and do an extensive assessment of performance and build quality. Slightly questionable English at times but otherwise the most comprehensive reviews I've found.

The only problem is it sometimes takes them weeks, even months to do a phone review after it has been released to the public. That is far too long for normies to wait, they would rather just gloss over the "reviews" from places like The Verge.

Android takes a bit to get used to from BB10. But if there's ever something you don't like, chances are you can find a way to change it.

Hardware is ok. The support is hideous. I bought an umi emax about 2 years ago. One of their selling point was an update to lollipop since it was only on kitkat. After a few months of customers asking for the update, they decided to delete the ads concerning the updates, they also promised different roms via their desktop program but stopped it after their next in line phone was released.

If you're only buying a phone then buying umi is ok. If you're buying a phone and expecting some bug fixes then umi is not for you.

One of my Chinese friends bought a UMI Zero phone while he was visiting family in Shanghai last summer. Figured he would use it for a month in China and then bring it back to Canada.

Software degradation and lag started developing within days. After two weeks the "metal" casing around the phone started showing signs of wear with very, very light use. The vibrator motor kept getting weaker (it was not very strong to begin with) until you could barely fucking feel it at all. Then the random reboots started showing up. Oh, and it somehow managed to corrupt its SD card on three separate occasions, eventually rendering it completely unusable. By the time he got rid of it, the damn thing was rebooting like 3-4 times a day. He took my advice and just bought a Moto G3.

I know that it is possible that one bad phone got through the Chink "quality control", but our research on the internet suggested that these were not isolated problems. While the hardware *specs* look good on paper, I would argue the hardware itself is not good at all. Neither is the software. UMI phones are just through and through bad.

Is the LeEco Le Pro 3 X720 a good option? I want a good chinkphone and its specs convinced me on its day. I've have had a Jiayu G3C with no problems for 3 years and I'm very happy with it, so I think Le Pro 3 will be a good replacement.

It's good if you don't mind using a USB to 3.5mm adapter. Apparently the software sucks so look into Lineage OS.

There will be a OnePlus 4/5 released in a few months, wait and see if it's not urgent.
>>
>>59775086
I'm not in a hurry but I also don't like the 'just wait for next gen' thing unless something new is due to be released in the next few days.
So putting it aside, is this phone worth its price, or should I be looking elsewhere.
>>
>>59775011
How much it sucks the software? And I'm not aware of the USB issue, can you source or tell me more, please?
>>
>>59775141
Yes. I have the Axon 7 which is a bit cheaper but the camera is not as good.
>>
>>59775270
I don't know so much about the software, just saw some reviews say it's not as good as stock android.
LeEco phones have no 3.5mm analog audio headphone jack so you use an adapter, usb headphones, or bluetooth.
>>
>>59775311
Oh, but that would be if I want to use headphones on my smartphone, right? Maybe I have even the excuse to get a ear freehands

My current contract is 6e for 4gb data, 5 cent/min calls and 5 cent/txt. My previous contract was 15eur unlimited everything but at 21mbps (3G). Now I could get either unlimited data at 4G speeds for around 14-15eur with calls and txt not included, or unlimited everything with 4G speeds at around 18-20eur. But I don't need unlimited with my use so I rather pay 6eur :D

everyone gets a phone and a tablet without the downfalls of a phablet (ie won't fit in pocket), nor the downfalls of a small phone (ie poor media consumption)

of course, ignoring the tremendous engineering feats required for such a successful execution of the idea

>>
>>59775631
Budget is below £550 . I care more about phone width than screen size. Ideally the whole phone shouldn't be wider than 70mm, which is about a 5.1-5.2" screen like you said.

Is there anything better than the honor 8 under 400€?

I'm mainly looking for
>4gb ram
>good software support
>SD card slot
The Moto g5+ is also a decent candidate but the honor 8 has more power and a better finish for like 30€ more.
What do you think /spg/?

Receiving official updates and having active ROM development for a long time.
>>
>>59776221

This is android, m8. Unless you bought an i9000 years ago you'll never see longterm support.

Shit, Google just officially discontinued support for 800/801 chips - even when companies like Sony had developed Nougat ROMs for devices like the the Z3Compact.
>>
I loved my LG X Power, 2 days battery life is awesome. Unfortunately they cheeped out on the screen (easy to crack) and camera.

Is there any flagship like phone (good camera, gorilla glass) with a big battery (4 amps < ) ?
>>
>>59776267
>Shit, Google just officially discontinued support for 800/801 chips
That's an odd way to spell Qualcomm, who decided not to provide updated drivers for the chipset.
>>
>>59776221
Honor 8 won't get any custom ROMs because of the Kirin SoC. Also Huawei is pretty bad with software updates so Nougat might be the last update it gets. I'd consider looking at Axon 7 or Oneplus 3.
>>
>>59776340

Admittedly it was sort of a combo of Qualcomm and official Android's stubbornness. It is a driver problem, but it's more a legal technicality issue that could've been avoided. As mentioned earlier , Sony had Nougat running on 801-powered devices through it's concept program..

It's detailed somewhat in this article:

You could read manga on your flip phone though, you only needed some .jar app i don't remember the name of and the scans compressed, i had a silver motorola flip phone that was perfect for this since it was enormous and the screen looked really sharp.

It was still impractical as all fuck since storage and quality were issues and the PSP could easily turn into a weeb machine and it was only 300$ for one and a 64 GB memory stick.

>tfw mine still turns on but none of the buttons work, the paint is all scrapped and the charger was destroyed by my dog

I'll fix it one of these days but i don't think anyone repairs these anymore, and i'm too stupid to do it myself.

By poverty you mean that you can only afford budget phones or do you want a budget phone so ty'dashawn doesn't steal it and if he does you can easily replace it? You have a few options anyway, all for 150 dollars or less.

Redmi Note 3 Pro (3/32, SD650, 5.5" FHD screen, 4050 mAh battery, SD slot, doesn't lack any features flagship phones have, third party support up the ass, 3.5 jack prone to breaking)

Moto G4 Play (2/16, SD410, 5" HD screen, 2800 mAh removable battery, SD slot, stock android, decent amount of third party support, no features sans proximity and accelerometer, underpowered)

Nextbit Robin (3/32, SD808, 5.2" FHD screen, decent amount of third party support, doesn't lack any features, type C, no SD slot, tiny 2500 mAh battery, probably the most cheaply and poorly built smartphone ever)

All of them have horrible cameras and botnet for days, but the appeal of these phones is unlocking and slapping a custom rom on them.

If you mean "poverty" then look for old flagships, the most popular choices being the Galaxy S5, LG G2, Galaxy Note 4 and the Nexus 5X.

In truth Doogee Shoot 1 is par for $99. Camera is good enough for less than $150 but not enough for more than $150. It's actually a good buy for a $99 budget. Your alternative is a $99 Mi4c 16gb with no sd card slot.

Jesus, there was some random lock screen popping up on my phone, thought it was a virus. Turns out it was Peel Remote, a bundled software. Good job Samsung for bundling your phones with adware that takes over the users phone without permission. At least Peel is now getting 1 star reviews spammed.
