I might not be a traditional elitist Arch faggot but I genuinly like the Arch. You have the AUR, the wiki, a good packet manager and so forth. I feel like even though not everything works out of the box and things sometimes break, the good documentation makes things very fixable with minimal effort.

In all seriousness...

To everyone who wants to use Arch but finds it a PITA to install:
Install Antergos.

It's literally Arch, with:
* A GUI for installation (which includes a few DEs by default)
* 1 extra repository

It's literally Arch without the cancer.

I've been using Fedora for about 6 months now and I really don't have a reason to switch.
I also use my computer for school, so I want something that just werks; I don't want to login to my laptop and have to fix something right off the bat. I may install Arch at some point because of the AUR and "How much better than pacman is than yum/dnf" but not right now.

When I move over to Arch, I'll probably go with Antergos. I've tried it in a VM and it's so fucking convenient to install.

Why do you want to use Manjaro? I'm not trying to troll you or anything I'm just curious.
>>
How can you spot an Arch user? Don't worry, they'll be sure to let you know.

Hey Arch niggers maybe you didn't read the question posed by OP. He asked why you're not using Arch, not for a fucking Arch user roll call. Nobody cares that you use some timesink OS.
>>
>>59744918
Because i heard about the aur repository (which i have almost no idea of what it is but people say it's "superior" to others), also i like when a os is highly personalizable and i don't want to use ubuntu because sounds to me like what Samsung android roms are in comparison to Cyanogenmod ones?

>>
>>59745007
Not him, but
>the AUR
the way the AUR and Arch repos work is that the Arch repos usually have a good amount of packages, but the AUR has way more user-submitted packages.
> personalizability
The same DE over multiple distros will have the same amount of customizability, but some distros favor certain DEs so that DE will be less buggy and will likely perform better out of the box.

Say fuck it and install fucking Ubuntu.

aur has lots of user submitted software recipes (or binaries where source is not available), yes anyone can just build from source themselves and many times is the right thing to do but the aur simplifies that and more importantly will apply any arch useful or specific compile flags, configs, etc.
>>
>>59745358
>Mature
Arch is a more mature than it's users at least
>>
>>59745496
would you please define "user submitted recipe" to a windows fag?
>>
>>59745370

Can confirm. I've used Arch as my main OS for years. Getting the system up and running is the quickest of any distro I've ever used. Getting the GUI up.... it seems like something always fucks up. The wiki is awesome for some things and complete shit after the base system is installed.
>>
>>59745574
normally on linux, when building from source, you have to
find what the dependencies ares
download the dependencies
compile the dependencies
What compile flags do i need?
install the dependencies
where do they need to install?
now you compile the program you wanted
what compile flags do i need??
install the program
where does the program need to be installed?

aur hands you a script that does all that in basically 1 execution.

I don't trust distros that are "based off of" the main ones. In that spirit, fuck Mint and fuck Antergos and fuck all the other thousands of Arch or Debian based clones that keep popping up.

Stick to the main ones like Debian, Arch, Gentoo, etc. The rest are just memes slapped together by very unprofessional devs.

>>
>>59746847
People use manjaro because they want to be a part of a hip crowd but also want everything to work out of the box. It's is great at first, then 6 months down the road you'll run `pacman -Syu` and get a fucked up version of a driver, and you won't know what to do because there's no graphical installation wizard to fix your problem. You HAVE to know what's on your system to maintain an arch installation, and manjaro is designed to deprive you of that, under the false pretense that you can maintain the installation without knowing what's going on.

If you want an up to date linux distro that works out of the box just track debian unstable.

>>59742053
Because I am happy enough with Xubuntu+i3WM for the time being and don't care much for ricing. A quick install with minimal bloat that does the job is satisfactory.

I dislike the rolling release style, don't want to play whack-a-mole with annoying bugs emerging with bleeding edge updates frequently.

Rolling release sounds really good if I want the latest and greatest as soon as possible but not much crosses my mind besides perhaps QEMU supporting more than 4 USB devices being passed through, and Wayland introducing GPU hot-swapping.

Negative points aside, being able to install precisely the software I want without having to hunt down redundant software I do not use after each major update sounds appealing.

If I ever start drowning in back-ports and kernel patches to get my shit running, I will consider some variant of it, perhaps manjaro that everyone has been talking about since it is quicker and easier to setup apparently.
