toasty
Toy workstation for my mancave.
Total cost: $150, not counting displays. Biggest expense was the GPU, since I wanted Vulkan support, and 240 was cheapest way to get it.
Has about half of performance of my main box ( 5820k ).
I just need to add an SSD and maybe I'll invest in some 2431 oppies for that extra 600mhz per core.
I can't wait to get rid of Intel.

Because you need to install stupid frameworks, always is something missing and with 2016 you still have all the shitty updates you have with 10 anyway.
But hey, whatever floats your boat.

Only the shitty part of Windows 10 is missing.

At least I can turn off Telemetry.
>>59757949
>literally what
>Only the shitty part of Windows 10 is missing.
Maybe I'm missing something here, but in every other windows server edition before 2016 you needed to go to server management and install roles (like .net framework, and desktop experience shit) to run most basic desktop applications... also and this is very nitpicky but 2012 and 2012 R2 wouldn't even let you change the desktop background.
Again whatever floats your boat and I will look into it, since I also have a 2016 datacenter key from Dreamspark.
>>59757765
I'd still use that over a lot of stuff posted ITT

I love it that AMD isn't just a waste of money anymore. Currently I have 6 Intel CPUs in use and not a single AMD one. I think I might just get the 1800x
>>59757894
>if i upgrade to a 1080 will my cpu bottle neck it?
Only at 1080p and not by much.
>but ive been thinking about buying a 1440p 144hz monitor
It won't bottleneck at 1440p and or 144Hz.
>>59740082
How do you like that monitor? I've been thinking of copping but keep hearing about screen tearing and weird artifacting
Shitty OC'er edition.
>not stable at 4.4GHz 1.275V
>not fully stable at 4.1GHz stock volts
But it does 3.9 at a -0.07V offset, not breaking 56C with 212 EVO literally at idle.
>>59758240
>keep hearing about screen tearing
Impossible with gsync unless you go over 144 fps. If vsync or gsync is on and your framerate is 144fps or lower, there is no screen tearing. Retards play cs go at 300 fps and complain about screen tearing.
>>59758283
My old 4670k needed 1.32v at 4.4GHz. 4.5GHz was practically impossible. My current 7700k needs 1.216v at 4.7GHz and 1.33v for 5GHz.
still rocking my 2011 build.
Give me a fire extinguisher please.
a lot of people ask me why I use a 42" TV, this is why. but i'd like to upgrade to a 144hz 1080p or 75hz-144hz 1440p monitor in the future.

If i bring a steak over can i borrow your computer to cook it?
I'm switching from a FX8350 + 390x build to a 6700k + 390x build.
Cost me £465 for the CPU, CPU Water cooler, 16gb DDR4 ram and motherboard (msi z270 sli plus)
You think that was a solid switch?
I'm going to setup a secondary PC with the FX8350 bits and give it to my bro or dad. They only need a PSU and a case, since I already got a 4gb 270x they can use.
I'm trying to think a little ahead here on further upgrading in the next few years.
The MSI 970 Gaming motherboard was getting a little long in the tooth. Pretty solid still though.
>>59759562
It's a solid upgrade.
>>59759713
I thought so too. Especially the motherboard, Going from 2 USB 3.0s and 5.1 surround, to USB 3.1s and 7.1 surround as an option with support for both SLI and Crossfire and two M.2s if I wanted.
In honesty this PC is my first build and I did it on the cheap (the 970 gaming motherboard, 4gb 270x, 8gb DDR3 ram and fx8350 only cost £200 used). The plan was always to upgrade bit by bit until the point when the 6700k came down in price. The 7700k only being a little better just solidified it.
Of course I spent a lot more than 200. About £600 or so to get started (75hz 1080p freesync monitor, corsair case, PSU, keyboard, mouse HDDs etc.)
I think I have done well this past year to basically get two solid PCs for the price of one brand new build.
>>59751113

Is the Prime B350-Plus any good? I'm looking to swap out this piece of shit mobo since it won't even let me set vcore manually.
>>59762603
so far so good, I can't speak to overclocking because I haven't yet. I did update to the newest bios.
My biggest turn off is that it only mounts with 6 screws, the ram side of the board has no mounting points, but it is otherwise stable. Haven't managed to get my Ram running at 3200mhz yet, but the last time I overclocked anything, a graphite pencil was required.
