Yeah, I wish they'd keep it as one of their signatures, just like how Raketa now uses 0's everywhere instead of 12's, but the bezels are instead becoming more normalized. Pic excepted.

So I'm now in the Seiko club with my Daini 5Actus. So this is supposed to be an entry level JDM sport watch, but for 1975 it has a steel case and a mineral crystal, when most entry Swiss-shit (and especially slavshit) of the time were plated brass and acrylic.

Seiko were that far ahead, huh? Also post your vintage Seikos pls.

Not really. The 52xx was the last new movement Daini designed before the quartz revolution and should be considered comparable to the ETA 2892-A2, Omega 56x/75x and Rolex 3035. In the 1990s Seiko brought back the 52xx as the 4s15 and ultimately moved it to Credor.

Be aware that the 5206 and 5245/5246 have instant day/date change at midnight but are vulnerable to quick-set damage if the quick-set is used between 9pm and 3am. The movements are otherwise quite reliable.

The 5256 variant, while lacking the instant date change, had adjustment labor lavished on it by Daini as it was their last run of high-end autos. My 52 King Seiko Special is scary accurate as a result.

Also, make sure you don't confuse the Suwa Seikosha produced 56xx for it, however. They are totally unrelated designs.
>>
>>59740626
In general, Daini tended to be pretty conservative in their movement designs and watch designs, most of their watches share a lot of the same design language.

Here's a 1967 Seikomatic-P 5106

Hi vintage seiko man / plaid man / southern Ontario man. Not him but a question about vintage seikos since I know you're knowledgeable. So Suwa was the wild one?
>>
>>59740756
Best value for a reliable manual wind vintage Seiko is a Lord Marvel 5740C. It's a 36,000bph manual winding design produced for a long time in the late 1960s and 1970s by Suwa Seikosha. No date complication and it doesn't hack, but as a result is extremely reliable.

If you are in Southern Ontario take it to Shane Ede in Toronto.

As for general tips, you need to Google the shit out of the movement and model you are interested in and learn enough to judge condition, originality and price for yourself.
>>
>>59740561
because they are good looking
>>
>>59740814
Suwa tended to be way more experimental with their designs for watches and for movements. For movements this often meant they ended up with flaws (see: 56xx quick set, 613x vertical clutches, 61xx excessive wear issues).

How many watches do you guys wear?

I recently upgraded from 2 to 4 (1 on each arm both outwards, to 2 on each arm 1 inwards and the other outwards). It's made it much more convenient to check the time no matter what my hands are occupied with. I've considered getting a 3rd one for each wrist for that rare time both watch faces are parallel to my eyes but I think I'm going to hold off until it really starts to bother me and I find a couple watches I want.
>>
>>59743307
Thanks! I'll check those out.

Good going retard it's not a real chronometer to start prob some cheap chinese movement instead. Prob has a 21800 (or worse) instead of 28800. The text is not properly aligned, crown positioned to high. Consider suicide. You could have gotten a nice watch for that price to. What a waste of money.

For value retention (and possible increase) buy Rolex

That's not cringe, it's a cheap quartz watch being used as a beater. Probably wears it whilst skateboarding and that's why the crystal is so scratched.

If so then the nato makes sense too as if a springbar snaps the watch won't go flying off.

Hidden crowns give me an erection. So it's got that going for it.
It's in need of a thorough cleaning, that's for sure. There's also quite a nasty chip in the case there.
Replacing crystals is not particularly difficult, but you do need a press for it. So keep that in mind.
If you are able to get a record of service history, it'd be worth considering a service if it's not had one for a while.
But for $35 it's not a bad grab.
Assuming it works.
>>
>>59749697

There's nothing wrong with acrylic, it polishes easily as well.

In general sapphire domes don't get as nice of a shape as this either.
>>
>>59749799
OK price, but check first where you can the glass replaced and how much it costs before deciding on anything else.
>>
>>59749853
There is... it will scratch 100%. Ever heard of Moh hardness scale? Hint quartz is mixed in dust/dirt and has a hardness of 7. Only sapphire withstands the test of time.

B-but you c-can rr-replace it! For now yea but forget it in a few years or be prepared to pay extra for vintage repair.

Good thing you posted that Credor without dial. Now compare the finishing between those two and realize Seiko is way outclassed by true luxury references like ALS and PP.
>>
>>59750895
I'd have to compare them in person, not every credor has the straight brushing on bridges either. I'm sure there are others with hand engraving as well.

It's a 34mm watch

>>59751408
That watch would be perfect with a highbeat movement..But 6bt/s is just not appealing.

The 6R15 is the only 6R with 21,600. Fuckin' dumb

Thanks, it's a really dark brown to compliment the super dark brown dial.
>>
>>59751523
Personally, I think the increase in time between services is worth the slower movement.

I just find 6bt/s too noticeable, not quite smooth enough, doesn't do the design justice.

Listen to this;
Yesterday I went shitter hunting on Ebay and found some guy selling Invicta 8926OB for $9.99. I thought to myself 'holy shit this is a bargain even for Invicta' and saw that there were 25 sold in the last hour and only four remaining. So I ordered one and hence found out that my credit card stopped being valid this month (holy fuck what a coincidence) and decided to cancel the transaction. And after that, the guy deleted the ad and now my order cancelation is in Ebay limbo.

Thinking about buying a swiss military watch from a friend. How can I confirm that it's real and not a fake?
>>
>>59752164
Gather pictures of the real watch and compare.
>>
>>59750330
I like it anon, its got a nice high end movement and great size. Im not sure if you can get it cheaper though.

Are there any good anadigis out there? Most of the ones I've seen are either Disney branded garbage or tacticool bullshit, but I like the functionality.
