apple is making a high end, upgradable Mac Pro. along with a pro display.

now you poorfags got NOTHING on apple. they already offered the best mobile hardware, now they are offering best PC hardware, with the option to upgrade it. god fucking bless America.

Phil Schiller: Apple Trashcan was a mistake
>>
>>59734824
>Apple is currently hard at work on a “completely rethought” Mac Pro, with a modular design that can accommodate high-end CPUs and big honking hot-running GPUs, and which should make it easier for Apple to update with new components on a regular basis.

>should make it easier for Apple to update with new components on a regular basis.

>easier for Apple to update with new components

>FOR APPLE

Nothing new, applefags cucked again.
>>
I'd be surprised if they pulled this off. MacOS is shit for professionals since 10.6 and the trash can killed a lotta goodwill. I'm still happy with my 2008 pro but there have to be some extreme changes if they want me to be interested in this.
>>
This is Apple we're talking about. These guys could fuck up a cup of coffee.
>>
>>59734824
so u mean its like they're going back to the design philosophy behind the mac pro that came out in 2010?

Well they fucking did it, wow.
Surprised they dumped the trashcan this quick, it'll get g4 cube notoriety pretty quick now.
Wonder when the price will drop...
Anyway, surprised they're doing the iMac thing, but at the same time not.
Now I'm just wondering how they'll pull off a redesigned pro.
I'm thinking a G5/cheese grater sorta deal, but a quarter the size, with a whole bunch of cubic modules you can slide out the side.
Possibly a double length but thinner module for the GPU.
I'd be surprised if they went entirely back to the Powermac G3 base, but who knows.
As for the iMac, I'm guessing that's a response to the surface desktop, I wonder if they'll pull a G4/Surface and put the guts in the base?
Just saw this a moment ago, rather old but I like it. A nice UFO G4

How much use do you get out of your 2008 these days? We're talking a pro machine from closer to the SGI days than the current day.
I know most stuff from back then can do today's tasks just fine, but most jobs require newer software that chokes the poor things.

So it's not going to happen in 2017 and it's not even guaranteed to happen in 2018. This smells like a publicity stunt to drive more sales towards their still shitty, overpriced trashcan and nothing more.

Name one time when Apple executive promised something and then lied and didn't deliver.

Apple doesn't need to lie.

They'll deliver.
>>
>>59734932
No, it just means apple is switching to the design philosophy of the rest of the industry and adopting a model of using cheap, low quality commodity parts rather than their own custom designs (but still selling the computers for the same 3x market price).

Congratulations OP, now you can pay EVEN MORE for someone to sell you overpriced hardware, put together at an overpriced rate, then jam packed with software of which 90% you will never use and 70% being unecessarily locked down.

Have fun spending all your money on this amazing package that will have to be upgraded in 3 years because "Your hardware is too old for our new OS-version. Click here to visit apple store and buy new hardware".

Congratulations OP, I applaud you from my 5 year old PC, which I assembled myself at a total price of about $4000, which for some incomprehensible reason still outperforms the newest macbook pros purchased this year.

I envy your bliss.

The next MacPro will be all AMD. The reason is rebranding. The trash can featured re-branded firepro's that Apple could sell for 10x the cost of the GPU. They sold them as Pro GPU's, when in reality they lacked the drivers that make Pro cards, as the is no difference between the gaming, and workstation GPU's.

AMD will give them a custom cheap Ryzen, that Apple will rename the MacPro super processor or some shit, and charge $3999 for it.

I know it's never going to happen /g/, but let me dream.

The new Mac Pro motherboard will have a CPU slot compatible with Ryzen and Intel (you will just need an adapter), or maybe two CPU slots, one for Ryzen, another for Intel. It will have four m2 slots and 6 thunderbolt 3 ports. Everything will be upgradeable, except the motherboard.
Two slots for GPUs, Ryzen/Coffeelake compatible CPU slot, up to 128GB DDR4 RAM at 4000MHz. CPU is watercooled by default.

Please, make it happen.

adding a touch display to macOS would require them completely changing the operating system to work for a touch screen, which is unnecessary since they already have iOS. What they should do is make using an iPad as a second display or able to connect to the Mac beyond functioning for pretty much just drawing. IMO having the same OS on the iPad and iPhone is stupid, the iPad OS should be more of a middle ground between iOS and macOS since Apple is constantly going on about the iPad being the middle ground hardware wise, especially with the iPad Pro supposedly being a "laptop replacement" even though its really just a normal iPad with better specs and a bigger screen.

update the Mac Mini? He said it was still important but wouldn't say anything more than that. So it looks like nothing currently planned for the Mini.

A stupid wrapper is pointless, metal has less features than Vulkan. If they want anyone to use a new Mac pro they have to find a solution to OSX dismal support for APIs.

actually they were one of the first manufacturers to put out a fully upgradable tower. IIRC, they had one of the most user friendly designs for opening them up.
