Ubuntu cannot detect a simple VGA Monitor edition -
I chose ubuntu because of my limited knowledge about linux.
Now I have installed several different graphic drivers for my ThinkPad W530 and done a lot of stuff I found on forums, but it still simply does not detect the plugged-in, turned-on working vga display.
Any ideas how I can fix that without having to learn how Xserver works?
tl,dr: xandr does not detect VGA monitor

Looks like a hardware issue.

Can't help you. Nvidia probably just fucking with you.
Remove that shit.
I see several issues here:
>Chinkpad (Not to be confused with a ThinkPad)
>Obongo
>Shitty VGA cable
>Novidya housefire card
>VGA at all
Fix those issues and then look up "reverse PRIME".

Ya should've just installed Windows instead of being a snowflake :^)

Stop calling stuff a meme. The only thing that can be considered a meme is your shitty, spying, proprietary OS
You'd think linux would have the best support for outdated hardware, but apparently not.

thanks for the tip!

I am using the open source version
>>59722429
There's nothing wrong with VGA

No you are not
>>59722530
Works on my hardware. It's not linux' fault.
ubuntu doesn't support vga
>>59722517
hows that vga monitor working for ya?
>>59722582
Using hdmi for my monitor.

You have a control panel with Nvidia logo open.
That means you're on Nvidia's proprietary driver.
Install 'nouveau' open-source driver, and see if the problem persists.
The Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display doesn't have this problem.
>>59722911
Yup it doesn't because it has no VGA :)))))))))))))))))) and you will need a Dongle™ to connect your MacBookPro™ to anything at all.
>>59722863
i was using an open source version of the driver
nouveau doesn't do shit either
is there any chance that simply installing another distro than ubuntu might fix the issue?

Xrand auto on
>>59722983
Fedora generally has better driver detection than Ubuntu of late.

Thank you!!!
Works no problem on Fedora.
Debian + xfce doesn't have this problem.
