Apple has been rumored to be doing pretty much the same. Samsung conducts corporate espionage to steal their gimmicks and put them in the Galaxy phones so that people aren't as impressed when Apple does it.

Expect

>OLED display
>Near 100% screen space with minimal bezel
>More waterproofing
>Wireless charging
>>
The question is, how has Samsung fouled up Wireless Charging that Apple is going to do it better?
>>

>bridge rectifiers

>It's been assumed that it will be built into the iPhone, but we've heard a few rumors that suggest the wireless charging capabilities will be enabled through a separate accessory that needs to be purchased separately.

>Most recently, Japanese site Mac Otakara said Apple would use a wireless charging accessory designed using technology sourced from Luxshare, a company that has reportedly provided components for the Apple Watch in the past.

>Long-range wireless charging technology offers the benefit of not requiring a charging source, but there are obstacles to overcome such as the loss of power transfer efficiency that occurs when the distance between the transmitter and the receiver is increased.
>Long-range wireless charging technology offers the benefit of not requiring a charging source

What a fucking load of nothing.
>>
>>59717256
S8 only has a very small battery.
so Apple is solely better by virtue of needing to charge less.

>>59717375
long-range wireless charging would certainly be better than current tech.
>>
>>59717375
Yet another win for the most successful company in human history.
>>
>>59717267
Samsung hasn't used Touchwiz on their phones for a while now.
>>
>>59717424
Long range charging will likely be the next step but there are a number of challenges to overcome first. And I don't see loss of efficiency over distance as being one of those challenges. The only way to keep the charging rate the same over distance would be to increase the output, which would mean the charger is drawing more power and so efficiency is lost anyway.

Apple could surprise everyone by bringing out long range wireless charging first, but I highly doubt it.

And the battery capacities have absolutely nothing to do with wireless charging so that is irrelevant.
>>
>>59717474
No, they still use Touchwiz.
>>
>>59717474
Does this look like pure Android to you?
>>
>>59717495
The S6 edge is the last flagship that uses Touchwiz.

>>59717517
Yeah, it looks a lot better and takes more advantage of multiple cores. That's not Touchwiz either.
>>
>>59717495
nope:
>Samsung Experience (styled "SAMSUNG Experience") (formerly "TouchWiz") is the user interface Samsung uses on its Galaxy-branded phones, based off of Android. Its original name was TouchWiz, being changed in late 2016 on a beta build of Android Nougat on a Samsung Galaxy S7.

what does Samsung's modern framework in common with their old one?
you obv change the name when the old one got a bad reputation ages ago.

meanwhile Nexus users had to wait years till Google imports the godly Samsung features like multi-window.

You are fucking retarded. Do you have any idea what kind of capacity Apple requires when building their phones? It's not a matter of if they could do it, it's a matter of if there are enough OLED displays being produced on the planet for them to buy.

They can't just go to the store and buy some OLED displays for their phone. Apple's QC standards are incompatible with current OLED production capabilities. Something like 1 in 10 OLED displays produced (or more) are defective. Sourcing OLED for 50-100 million phones is impossible. That is why the OLED will only be featured on their top of the line phone while the company they are purchasing from builds our their production capabilities and capacity.

Samshit is lucky to sell 1 million phones. They produce their own OLEDs in house. When you have abysmal production numbers like that it's easy.

Looks like it was the opposite. Only 1 in 10 panels produced are good. A defect also can be something as simple as a single dead pixel (which no one wants, and will complain about when they buy it anyways so QC has to drop it).

I found an article, rather old, but I doubt the numbers have changed much:

Are you people dumb enough to think that someone who likes iOS will buy a Samshit, for its physical looks? Are you that stupid? The only thing that matters for any computing device is the interface, and Android will never not be garbage.

>The only thing that matters for any computing device is the interface, and Android will never not be garbage.

But iOS doesn't let you do anything other than exactly what they Apple says you should be doing.

Pic related is my home screen. I have a custom clock, music controls, a weather widget, and custom icons that I created, compiled, and sideloaded onto my phone. I also have a facebook messenger bubble that floats on top of the UI, no matter what app I'm using, and allows me to pop in and out of messenger as needed. It also has the ability to be used as the default SMS app for your phone.

iOS can do pretty much none of this. The extent of iOS homescreen customization is the calendar actually showing what day it is and the clock app ticking live. Both of these are things only Apple can do for their apps and no one else.

So why is iOS's interface better?

it looks bad, doggy. i use android cause i'm poor and get mad about apple's proprietary shit but your homescreen looks like dogshit compared to apple default interface.
>>
>>59722989
>But iOS doesn't let you do anything other than exactly what they Apple says you should be doing.
This is the case with every UI, some like Android and specially desktops OS's like Loonix simply offer more choices that are often necessary because the stock product is so shit. With iOS UI you don't have to waste your valuable time on it and can skip to the next step aka. using it.

I got both and while it was fun to mess with my homescreen it was a huge waste of time with no real benefits. Does a slightly different looking clock make you work faster? Thought so.
>>
>>59723329
I'll give you that the icons and clock are purely aesthetic, but the music and weather widgets save me having to launch an app.

Also, the facebook messenger bubble is extremely useful and has definitely saved me time in the past.

Would be just moving your finger up/to the side with iOS and most android music players too, so the saving is in milliseconds at best.

FB messenger bubble is arguably closer to saving time though iOS got similar functionality. Maybe I was using my phone wrong but I don't recall any kind of customization on Android that made it noticeably different from iOS in a way that saves time. At least newer versions of it, I do recall the older ones being massively limited compared to Android, hence I was never interested in them.

Now things like filemanager or changing stock app for X, that's a lot more noticeable but while it felt necessary to change shit on Android (also the horror of Samsung with their double and tripple apps doing same shit), the stock stuff on iOS were pretty satisfying for me.
>>
>>59723605
Looks like it was designed by a child who wanted minimal bezels but then the actual engineers had to sort the shit out.
>>
>>59716823
It eliminates the side bezel. But I agree, it makes holding it much harder. I would rather have a thin metal bezle edge.
>>
>>59723616
I'll agree that Apple stock apps are of better quality than their Samsung counterparts.

Although Apple's music app went to shit a while back in iOS 8 iirc (I used to use an iPod touch for music up until a while ago). It used to be better than Google Play music, but now it's a lot worse.

Google ones too, sans Mail I'd say. Also maybe store.

Didn't check recent versions of Google Play Music but last time I used it (2015), it was pretty but annoying and needed 2-3 steps too many. Blackplayer was comfy but somewhat inconsistent. Recent Music app on iOS is, eh, functional. Can't say I am overly happy with it but it never annoyed me like Play Music did.

Though obviously the good side with Android is that if you happen to hate some app, you can just pick something to your liking, the bad side that it can be a pain to find THAT ONE GREAT APP.

> muh carrier owns my phone, I only rent it

In the rest of the world we buy our phones from whatever store happens to sell it at the lowest price and switch between carriers like pairs of shoes.

>>59721665
Americans don't do this. I have no idea why.

>>59722393
I guess that somewhat explains it. Though this does give carriers too much power. As an example, my brother bought a new phone which only had a micro-SIM slow and he had a mini-SIM. He called his carrier and told them that he bought a new phone and needed a micro-SIM. They were like "Yes, we can send you one for $15" and he just replied "No way, I'll just sign up somewhere else and get them to send me one for free, I would like to cancel my subscription now." He was immediately offered a free micro-SIM and 3 months of free data.

To be fair, Samsung still overloads our phones with bloat.

>"No way, I'll just sign up somewhere else and get them to send me one for free, I would like to cancel my subscription now."
Well, can't pull it off without competition. It's sure ironical that Americans are so obsessed with muh free market, muh competition and paranoia about state interventions, have a clustfuck of monopolist ruling the game.

I don't love Play Music, but it was there, and it has the podcasts I listen to, so I use it mainly for that. I'd agree that certain things take too many steps.

One more, tangentially related, complaint about iOS is that they deleted ~16GB of music off of my iPod after I installed an incremental iOS update at one point. It was still all available to download from iTunes, but it was a massive inconvenience.

Oh, also, I'd say most stock Google apps are better than Apple ones, which is a result of Google being a software service company at its core.

Google Photos, Maps, Drive, Calendar plus the ones you mentioned are all great and are much better at their primary purpose and better at integrating with other things than their Apple counterparts.
>>
>>59722989
Apple can do literally all of that, granted not on home screen and custom icons.
>>
>>59724231
>Apple can do literally all of that
Which part are you referring to?

as far as I know:
>no sideloading apps
>no screen overlays (facebook messenger bubble)
>no widgets on the home screen
>no designating alternate app for SMS
>>
>touchwizz

Name of tech company based in the US that DOESN'T do this. They all do, because it's cheaper to have chinks put it together than to do it here.

How so?

Agree on the ones you mentioned, Gphotos/Drive/Calendar are pretty much best in class although Apple Maps got pretty good and isn't the joke it once was, at least from my experiences in moderately big cities it was flawless and never made me miss gMaps. Also I'd say Safari beats Chrome and I find iMessage a lot more comfy. Also Notes is pretty nice. And Google Books is pretty shit.

>better at integrating with other things than their Apple counterparts
Kinda but on the other hand Apple has pretty much unmatched integration with their own ecosystem. Continuity is such a simple yet helpful idea. There are some apps trying to emulate it on Android but the results are meh at best and I recall reading about a security fuckup with AirDroid.

Also not like I personally care but games on iOS are on another level and often new apps are available sooner.

It just doesn't look thought through, also very bland. At least the camera could be positioned slightly higher so it doesn't look like someone cut it off.

Then of course there is the entire practicality thing if you're going to use it.
>>
>>59724515
So you're complaints are mainly about the whole concept of having a phone that is almost entirely screen?
>>
>>59724601
Nah, it's a good idea and will definitely be more common. Just Samsung attempt got fewer downsides. The next step is getting on screen fingerprint reader and slimming down the bottom bezels. The "put speaker and cam down" approach is unpractical.

iMessage and the camera speed are the only reasons I got an iPhone.
I miss my Xperia for almost everything else.

Why such a big screen? Do you watch a lot of movies or other shows on it?

All a big screen does is remind me how I get no text messages throughout the day.

Like you're going to use your smartphone for more than 3~4 years.
