Is a video that's encoded for GearVR(name in the title) playable on a Vive?
I don't know
Can you repeat the question?
Have you tried turning if off and on?

most of the vr files I see are just mp4 files and you just get it to work by changing view modes
that depends on the playback software you use in the vive. whirlgig (http://www.whirligig.xyz/) can play back any file you have the codec for, for example klite codec pack.
so with klite installed using whirlgig you can play pretty much any video file and toggle between 3d modes using a hotkey (side by side left right, over under top bottom, etc.)
