Would also recommend Cinnamon.My own preference would be Manjaro but you should pick the distro you want to maintain.

Cinnamon is great, it's modern and has eye candy animations but still makes it easy to change anything you want, like the placement of the clock on the taskbar for example. You just move it with your mouse, no need to write your own config files to get it differently. That's what I like about it most.

i put xubuntu on my dads comp. the only complaint he's had so far is the wireless drops out sometimes. pretty sure thats just the shitty usb wifi he has
